Probate Of Will of Simon Griffiths of Cwmrhaiad, p. Machynlleth, co. Mont, gent. (will dated 26 Jan. 1821, with codicil dated 17 April 1821). Devises to his eldest daughter, Susannah Griffiths, m's called Cwmyrhaiad, Galltyblader, Cwmcemrhiew Issa, Cwmcemrhiew Ucha, Bryncynfil, Abertrinant, Tymawr, Glaspwll, Bwlch Hyddgan, Penrhiew and Mownog, Cefnswellan, Havodwnog Fach and Trawsllechwedd, all in p. Machynlleth, co. Mont. (occupants named), m's in or adjoining Pentrerhedin Street, in the town of Machynlleth (occupants named), a tmt. and sheepwalk called Llyestcutta in p. Llanbadarn Fawr, co. Card. (occupant named), for life, and after the determination of that estate during her lifetime to the use of John Edwards of Machynlleth, esq., during the life of the said Susannah in trust, and after her decease to her first son (further uses specified); to his wife, Sarah, a m. in Pentrerhedin Street in the town of Machynlleth, in the occupation of Evan Jones, butcher, for life, and after her decease to the said Susannah for life, and after the determination of that estate during the lives of either of them to the use of the said John Edwards, during their lives, in trust, and after their decease to Susannah's first and other sons (further uses specified), with liberty to cut down timber on the said lands for building and repairs; bequests include £12,000 in trust for the maintenance of the testator's two younger daughters. Denb., widow, dated 10 May 1829, devising m's and lands in Llansilin and Llangollen for 500 years in trust for her eldest son, Humphrey Jones, with a further stipulation that after her decease the trustees raise a sum of £300 for the portions of the younger children; bequests include an oak chest marked with the name of her late brother, Robert Maurice.

Probate Of Will (dated 9 Jan. 1816) of the Rev. William Higgs Barker, BA, chancellor of the Collegiate Church of Brecon and vicar of St Peter's, bor. Carmarthen. Devises the prebendal lease of Llandewyaberarth, co. Card., with all premises comprised therein, to his wife Anne during her life, then to his dau's Mary Anne, wife of Evan Rees, merchant, and Jane, in equal shares; bequeaths to William Morgan of Lower Market Street, Carmarthen, and John Stacey, mercer, of Lammastreet, Carmarthen, the sum of £1,166.13.4 (cf. no. 1307) upon trust to pay the annual interest arising from the said sum to his daughter Jane (further details given); bequeaths all his household goods, plate and furniture to his wife Anne during her life, then to his daughter Jane (excepting the plate which is to be divided equally amongst his dau's Mary Anne, Jane and Anne Eliza, wife of Evan Rees of Carmarthen, merchant); bequeaths sums of £5 to his eldest son the Rev. George Albert Barker and his second son the Rev. William Alleyne Barker to purchase mourning rings. Copy, dated 1843.

Appoints that in addition to the payment of £500 to each of his dau's Jane and Mary, according to his marriage settlement, sums of £300 and twenty guineas be paid to them upon attaining the age of 21 years or upon their marriage; appoints that all his manors, lands and tmt's after the death of his son Charles without male issue, for raising a sum of £500 for his dau's, should remain to the use of Jane for 99 years, then to the use of trustees (named) in order to preserve the contingent remainders (further uses specified); directs that his son Charles should settle and convey man. Parke Littice and other premises purchased from Baron Schiverin and his trustees, being the lands of Lady Morgan, dec., in p's Lanover, Langiew, Llanllowell and Uske, co. Mon., to the same uses as his other premises; bequeaths to his wife Mary all chattels and household goods which she held before her marriage, together with his coach, coach horses, calash with harness and furniture belonging to the same, £200 'to buy mourning', and so much of his plate as she shall be willing to make use of until his son Charles shall attain the age of 21 years or be married; directs that he should be buried at the 'ancient burieing place' of his ancestors at the parish church Michaelston Vedow (contains instructions regarding a vault made 'of the whole breadth and lenth of the isle'); other bequests include sums of money to be given to the poor of Michaelston Vedow, Llanedern, Lisvaen, St Mellans and Lanishen.
