Draft letter from Mrs Jane James to the Rt Hon. C. Yorke, reminding him that she had the previous year urged the promotion of her son, Horatio. She reminds him also that her husband, Lt John James, who served in the navy for 33 years, had died in 1790 and left her with seven children, one of whom had since died. Horatio was the only child in the navy, the other son [John Jones] was mate in the East India Service, and the other children were girls; Horatio, who had served only on the Jason and the Ethalion, was presently on the Brazil station with Rear Admiral Courcy.
