Part of Martin Ridley Collection
Includes steam engine 'Grosvenor', a 'Steam Navy' crane with a plaque 'John Mowlem & Co No 28.' Grosvenor is believed to be the Hunslet Engine Co. built 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, No. 288 of 1884. The construction site is on the edge of a large settlement. Below the church is a board on which '&SWR' can be read. This may refer to the London & South Western Railway which operated along the south coast where Ridley was based. As it bears his no.1252 it is a relatively early photograph and as such it can be surmised that it belongs to his native area.
