Letter from Ellis W. Davies, Caernarfon,

Is very glad to be rid of the Bill. Discusses the views of some of those who attended the Shrewsbury Conference. Asks for John Herbert Lewis's views of the economic and political situation. 'The Liberal Party seems dead. And so far Labour has not thrown up a Leader. There is a good deal of discussion as to LG's future. I merely say he is incalculable[?], but that is the source both of his weakness and his strength'. Dr Henry Morris-Jones has interviewed Hitler. Recalls the conference at Churt on the Land Question in 1924. Discusses books he has read.

Letter from L. A. Selby-bigge, Lewes,

Has visited Normandy. Discusses books he has read. The economy drive in the education system. India. Has heard from Herbert Fisher. Lloyd George's election speech in Cardigan: 'I don't think he will unite the Liberal Party just yet'.

Letter from L. A. Selby-bigge, 127 Sloane Street,

Christmas greetings. Has seen Leeson; he is destined for a fine career. Is serving on Public Assistance Committees in Limehouse and Harrow Road. Discusses the system of secondary education. Is to hold an enquiry into the administration of the College of Medicine at Newcastle. Has seen Barber who has returned from India permanently. Irwin has little time for the Board of Education, but Ramsbottam is 'an excellent Lieutenant'. 'But what a world we are living in - I am sure you don't find your Times dull reading'.

Letter from E. Morgan Humphreys, Caernarfon,

Christmas greetings. Would like the University of Wales Press to publish a volume on the 'marks' used in Wales ('nodau'). They are likely to remain in use on mountain farms. Old field names are often lost. Believes Yr Hen Gorff should be persuaded to preserve its old documents in the National Library. R H Davies is much better.

Letter from H. Hepworth Thompson, Holophane House,

New Year greetings. John Herbert Lewis's handwriting is very clear. Is not sorry to see 1932 come to an end, 'a time of unparalleled anxiety to those in authority and there are few who have not experienced loss as the result'. Has been to Canada and the USA recently. Reflects on Britain's industrial and economic problems.

Letter from L. A. Selby-bigge, Lewes,

Many sensational events have been happening recently. Books he has read. Is trying to write a report on the administration of the Medical College at Newcastle. The Board of Education is marking time. India. Is sorry that Richards and Watkins are leaving the Board of Education.

Letter from George M. Ll. Davies, Tywyn,

Appreciates John Herbert Lewis's concern for Tom Nefyn. £105 has been collected. Quotes from a letter from the Quaker Home Service Committee. Hopes John Herbert Lewis will send the enclosed appeal to personal friends who might help.
