1898 Strike circulars,

Material related to the Strike of 1898 including the original signed copy of the notice to terminate contracts, copies of various Sliding Scale Agreements between 1875 and 1898, audit result tables, accounts of meetings of the MSWCOA, circulars of a routine business nature, newspaper accounts of miners' meetings, and correspondence relating to the negotiations.

20-ton mineral wagons: specifications and drawings,

Material relating to the maintenance, repair, and railway conveyance rates of 20-ton mineral wagons comprising letters and correspondence, reports, notes, news cuttings, statistics, specifications and drawings. Also, copies of minutes of meetings of the Joint Sub-committee of Representatives of the Railway Companies' Chief Mechanical Engineers and of the Private Wagon Owners' Associations in which specific technical subjects such as axle-box bearings, side-doors, draw-gear, draw-hooks and bars, bearing spring shoes for wood-frame wagons, starring of tank wagons, lubricating pads and matters relating to the rebuilding of damaged private owners' wagons were discussed.

Entries in the early journals are grouped according to district board, and some journals include account balance sheets in the back of the volume.

Ledgers containing financial entries and notes for various accounts including members' subscription and expenses accounts, capital fund accounts, indemnities accounts, investment accounts and revenue accounts. Expenses itemized include such things as travel, meetings, legal fees, engineers' fees, office maintenance and expenses, electricity in mines, back to coal movement, strikes and other disputes, committee and conciliation board expenses. Many ledgers contain an index of colliery companies in the front of the volume. Ledger contents are arranged by colliery and often include balance sheets for particular types of accounts in the back of the volume.

Material related to the work of a number of Monmouthshire and South Wales Coal Owners Association committees including the Joint Emergency Committee, Commercial Committee, Coal Cutters & Conveyers Committee, Coal Dust and General Research Committees, Anthracite & Steam Coal Collieries Committee, Eight Hours Committee, and the Education Committee, amongst others. Material comprises mainly minutes and reports.
