Demands of anthracite enginemen for increased rates and reduced hours,

Material relating to negotiations between the Coal Owners Association and the Anthracite Enginemen, Stokers and Outside Craftsmen's representatives for increased rates of pay and reduced working hours. Material includes correspondence, meeting notices and circulars, and minutes of meetings of the Enginemen Wages Committee.

Winding enginemen Time Agreement 1910,

Material relating to the renewing of the 1910 Time Agreement for winding enginemen including statistical tables showing the relative wages of enginemen under previous general wage agreements, correspondence and letters regarding the reaction of enginemen towards the proposed Agreement and the efforts of some to avoid signing it, and memoranda from other coalfields reporting the wages and conditions of enginemen in those districts.

Factory and Workshops Act: draft regulations on locos and wagons,

Correspondence regarding the attitude of the Coal Owners Association towards these regulations, which were thought to affect colliery sidings, with members, the Mining Association of Great Britain, and other interested bodies. Also included are copies of the rules, with copies of the amendments sought by the Mining Association of Great Britain Parliamentary Committee, and the objections of the Bristol Channel Dock Owners Association to the draft regulations.

Royal Commission on Trade Disputes,

Correspondence regarding the establishment and composition of this commission, and the evidence given on behalf of South Wales (1903-1905); printed copies of the Trades Disputes Bill (1903) and the Trades Disputes Act (1906); also tables of statistics and memoranda relating to strikes which took place prior to the 1906 Act.

National Wage Agreement, 1925,

Material relating to a National Wage Agreement which includes letters and notices regarding the termination of the 1924 Conciliation Board Agreement and negotiations for a new Wage Agreement for miners; an interim Wage Agreement between the Mines Department and the Mining Association of Great Britain (MAGB); subvention claim forms for collieries with terms and instructions for their use; letters regarding the appointment of a Court of Inquiry; proof of evidence given on behalf of the MAGB; and supporting statistical statements. Also included are notes and statements regarding 8-hour days and the wages of the Saar miners, and a verbatim account of an interview with the Russian Trade Delegation, June 1925.

File contains a printed report of the Royal Commission on Mining Royalties, 1893; memorandum compiled as a result of a questionnaire to colliery companies in South Wales and Monmouthshire, 1933; return by the Mining Association of Great Britain of rents, royalties, and way-leaves for Great Britain, 1936; tabulated statement of the royalities, deadrents, and wayleaves paid by collieries in South Wales, 1931-2; schedule of 'temporary concessions' and 'unreasonable burdens' relating to the same topic.

Miners' wage claims,

Material relating to negotiations for a higher wage rate for miners including a statistical survery of the coal trade prior and subsequent to the Wages Award of 1934; district (Glamorgan, Swansea, Monmouth) statistics on coal sold for export; correspondence and memoranda relating to the miners' claim for higher wages; statement of the Coal Owners' case and notes of meetings between representatives of the Coal Owners and the Miners' Federation of Great Britain.

Post-war policy of the coal industry,

Material relating to the government's plans for the future of the mining industry, and also relating to schemes for the training of juvenile entrants in the coal mining industry and for training colliery firemen, and the nationalisation of the coal mining industry. Material includes responses to proposed policy by the Mining Association of Great Britain, the Monmouthshire and South Wales Coal Owners Association, the British Iron and Steel Federation, and the Joint Technical Advisory Committee, among others, and comprises reports, memoranda, draft policies, copies of addresses, circular letters and papers, some printed items.

Correspondence, circulars, statistics and printed items. Subjects include the grouping of collieries and the classification of coal, 1930-1943; proposed schemes for the regulation of the house coal trade in the counties of Glamorgan, Cardigan, Brecon, Carmarthen, Pembroke, Monmouth and Radnor, 1939; opinions and reports of W.H.F. Barklam, solicitor to the South Wales District (Coal Mines) Scheme; miscellaneous documents concerning the regulation and control of output, 1934-1936; circulars and reports regarding local collaboration between colliery and railway staffs and lists of marshalling yards, stations and depots, 1941; and notices and reports of Trade Committee meetings, 1940.
