I have already sent you my report on the district. I hope you have received it. I have so far been able to collect twenty five thousand rupees as revenue from Arcott. This has been sent to the treasury. For the collection of the rest I have appointed men in each corner. Whatever is collected will be sent to you. Ramdev Naik reached here yesterday. The cavalry and foot soldiers that were called in by Diwan Ramchand to Burdwan with the treasury have now returned and will be sent to you soon. I am enclosing a letter from Amir Beg Khan. I hope you will be able to reply soon. Thank your for your letter of 25 Muharram complaining that you have not received any reply to your last two letters. The Nawab Sahib, before leaving for Calcutta, had given all -- The testimonials, which Nawab Wazir had sent more than a month ago with his letter, did not carry his official seal. Moreover, these documents did not have your full titles and honors listed. These were, therefore, returned for amendments and corrections. We received the corrected documents and testimonials from the Nawab Wazir through Jagat Seths on 10 Safar, reg.yr. 5. Knowing very well the Nawab's concern for these documents I am holding these until his returns. It is essential that we keep all correspondence relating to this affair very secret and letters are sent in secure bags and by trusted messengers. I am glad to inform you that the Nawab has appointed me as the administrator of Rangpore district and I was invested with the insignias of the office on 17 Safar, reg.yr. 5 as well as given a robe of honour/ khillat, decorated head-dress, sword of honour, elephant, etc.

I have received your request to grant your agent permission to cross our territory with one hundred horses. Your agent who was staying with Mr Preston at the Port of Buxar has been provided with all necessary provisions and asked to stay at the kothi of Katak. Similarly, as a gesture of goodwill, Mr Pleadel [?] who had tried to go through a different and unauthorised route has been forgiven. As Maharajah Januji Bhonsalah is engaged in the suppression of rebellion of indigo and peacock farmers he has instructed to close all borders with other states. These borders will remain closed until the rebellions are completely suppressed. Your agents will then be allowed to move from the port of Buxar and carry on their business as usual. I hope you have already received my report on the past events here. I do not neglect my duties and work very hard day and night to perform my duties. I have already sent a receipt of ninety thousand rupees, which were sent to the treasury on 19 of Aghan.

The military administration of Chaklah Hasr[?] has remained with my father for the past thirty years. Now, after he has passed away, all landlords and chaudharis have asked their lawyers to approach the court officials to carry on this responsibility. Recently they have brought in two or three Tilangas to administer this place and they have dismissed these lawyers and court officials so that no one could investigate the crimes of dacoity and robberies which are being carried out day and night by the landlords as well as theses Tilangas. They are disregarding all orders issued by you to maintain peace and order. I would be grateful if you could send me a letter of authority to take these culprits into custody and release the lawyers so that they can carry out the process of law and order.

I have not received any news from you since long. Please could you have a bunglow/ haveli near your house reserved for me as I intend to come and see you in two or three days time. Meanwhile I have received fifty lotus flowers which I am sending to you.
