News reports from Rajah Ram Narayan's camp, dated Rajab. Raja Ram Narayan traveling in a palanquin, wearing expensive clothes and accompanied by a company of horsemen went to Phulwari to meet the Prince. He reached Mihrpur early in the morning and stopped at Yakbagh. From here he sent Diwan Shitab Rai to Nawab Madar al-Daulah and asked him to wait for his instructions. The aforesaid Diwan replied to all the questions put forward by Nawab Madar al-Daulah. After this Rajah Rama Narayan came to see Nawab Madar al-Daulah. Shah Shakir Khan and Shitab Rai, Diwan of Sikhs came from the camp of the Prince to Rajah Ram Narayan and accompanied him to see Madar al-daulah Bahadur. Shah Shakir Khan, Shitab Rai and Mustafa Ali Khan sat in one place. Shaikh Hamid al-Din Jamadar presented five rupees and Murad Khan jamadar two rupees as nazar to the Nawab. After a ghari had passed Rajah Bahadur, Nawab Madar al-Daulah, Nawab Mustafa Ali Khan and Shah Shakir Khan and Khudad Khan and Shitab Rai Diwan all sat on an elephant and went towards Phulwari. Here they went to see Nawab Muhammad Quli Khan who had camped there. After a while Nawab Muhammad Quli Khan and Nawab Madar al-Daulah came out and took Rajah Ram Narayan to see the Prince. He took with him two elephants, four horses, five trays of clothes, some ashrafis, etc., as a nuzr for the Prince. A contemporary translation of the contents is CC2/10, item no. 401. I have arrived at Ganga Prashad today, Wednesday the 20th of Rajab and have encamped here. We received news that today on the 17th of Rajab, San 6, when two gharis of the day had passed Maharajah Ram Narayan Bahadur after consultation with Shah Shakir Khan sent two speedy messengers to take a message to the Prince. Our harkaras are there to report on the matter. I will send you their report when I received it. God willing, I will march from here to Shahabad and will encamp there.

On the night of the 8th of Safar a middle-aged men clad in a blanket came here and stopped at the mausoleum of a faqir next to the Sarae Mo. He has put up his bed there and claims that he is the son of Rafi al-Darajat and Nuh/son-in-law of Emperor Bahadur Shah. I went to investigate this in the morning and found out that he claimed that he had escaped from Delhi Fort to Hyderabad and came here to gather support and conquer the country. I intend to take him into custody but will wait until I have completed my investigation.

I hope you have seen my earlier communication regarding the receipt of money I had sent for the expenses of the English Company. Now I have received a parvanah of salary from Nawab Munir al-Daulah Bahadur asking for the payment of the whole year to be submitted soon. I am going to see the Nawab Sahib today, the 22nd of Rabi al-Sani, along with my letters to reach an agreement.

As I and Nawab Madar al-Daulah have sworn on the Quran and on Amir al-Momin Ali ibn Abi Talib that we will spend the rest of our lives in harmony as friends and brothers it was decided that the district of Dacca, except the outlying districts, which according to the tradition of Shahamat Jang Bahadur had come to the Nawab Sahib, would be given to me by Hazrat aqdas-i Ala. From the rest of his wealth, state, etc. two portions would come to me and one to the Nawab. If there is any disagreement we should remember that we have taken oath of Hazrat Ali.

After giving me permission to leave, Murshidzadah asked me to take certain messages to Qadrshinasan [Clive?] but when I reached my destination I fell ill and could not meet him for a few days. Ultimately I gave the shuqqah/envelope and messages to Mirza Abd Allah Khan so that he could pass these messages to him in private. Now I am waiting here for their replies.

Contrary to the practice of your predecessors we have not heard from you for a long time. I have been informed that some ships have arrived from England; no doubt they will be carrying some presents for us. It is requested therefore that you submit a list of all valuable and rare items along with their prices so that we can select what we may need from this list. Please also tell your agents who come to this part of the world to sell their goods that they should approach us first for the sale of their goods.

I had gone to Ajudhia for the sacred baths when I had the opportunity to seek an audience with Shuja al-Daulah Bahadur. He was very kind to me and repeatedly asked me about you and I replied to him, very diplomatically, that which I consideres to be appropriate. He wished to appoint me to negotiate between you and him but I refused this offer; he took me aside to question me further privately. Later on the Navab Vazir on the advice of his courtier came to this part of the country. After travelling two manzils the Navab Vazir asked his Begam and his son Mirza Amani to return to Faizabad. As I did not find the conversation of courtiers very amiable I separated from the company of the Navab and returned to where I am now. The Navab who is at present coming to see you expects a large number of favours from you. I am writing to you to warn you of his intentions. I will be waiting for whatever you want me to do next.
