Hayek to Mrs Strachey,

Has received S. Leon Levy's book: Nassau W. Senior, The prophet of [modern] capitalism, for review in Economica; asks whether her biography of S. is to be published soon; has heard from Lionel Robbins that there were 'certain difficulties' re Levy's right to the MSS; wonders whether she has any information on this; is prepared to send her Levy's book. 'He [Levy] has evidently put a lot of work into it and yet has not produced a very satisfactory book.'.

Hayek to Mrs Strachey,

Believes Levy has more doc's than Mrs Strachey believes; suggests she reads Levy's biography; urges her to continue efforts to regain missing MSS; is prepared to read her biography of S.

Hayek to Mrs Strachey,

May be able to help her publish her biography; critical of Levy's 'miserable book'; sends her a copy; may visit her at Guildford.

Mrs Strachey to Hayek,

Encloses copy of letter from Graham Hutton [see F85]; believes that Levy's book does not contain many unpublished MSS; Prof. Sanders's opinion. Copy.

Hayek to Mrs Strachey,

Encloses letter from Cape, who is unable to publish the book. (Enclosed is letter from Cape to Hayek, 23 Feb., 1945).

Hayek to Mrs Strachey,

Will discuss matters with Hutton; considers it best to 'warn' Levy's publishers; Cassell's will not publish her book. (Enclosed is letter from Cassell's to Hayek, 5 March 1945).

Mrs Strachey to Hayek,

Suggests re-writing her book, leaving out the political and economic sections and calling it "Three Victorian Love Affairs." 'We are all much excited by my son, John Strachey, not only getting in for Dundee, but being made Under Secretary in the Air Ministry. I am rather glad that in that Ministry he will have little or any economics. There are certain other Ministries where I should have thought his views extremely rash.'. Copy.

Mrs Strachey to Hutton,

Wishes to know what part Senior played in the establishment of the Political Economy Club; will discuss this on the way to Glyndebourne. Copy.

Mrs Strachey to Hutton,

Has found the Senior Report on Combinations and Strikes at the Home Office; working on the chapter on the Crimea; wonders whether be has 'run Levy to earth.'. Copy.
