Cwmystwyth lead mines,

Original bundle containing a case for the opinion of counsel, 1832, concerning the non-payment of royalty arising from the Cwmystwyth lead mines, p's Llanbadarn Fawr and Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn, due to William Edward Powell, from the assignees of Thomas Anderson, a bankrupt and surviving lessee of the said mines; concerning the recovery of possession of the said mines and the payment of wages to the miners, together with accounts between W.E.P. and the lessees, 1823-1833, abstract of the lease of the said mine to Sir George Alderson and the said Thomas Anderson, lead merchants and copartners, 1825, accounts of ore raised by each miner, 1826-1827 and 1831-1832, correspondence 1827-1833, and valuation of materials and tools at the said mine, 1833.

Cwmcynfelyn estate,

Papers relating to the Davies, Williams and Howell families, successive owners of Cwmcynfelyn [sometimes abbreviated to ‘Cwm’], and related estate papers. The papers relating to the estates of David Howell of Cwmcynfelyn and Gertrude his wife, 1915-1932 (formerly Roberts & Evans C 5/3), mostly concern the guardianship of their adopted daughter Gwendoline Marjorie Howell and the sale of the Cwm estate.

Original bundle of papers relating to the sale, in 1844, of a capital messuage previously called Tythyn Brynglas and now called Lovesgrove, p. Llanbadarn Fawr, to John Evans of Aberystwyth, esq., comprising an abstract of the marriage settlement of James Hughes of Aberystwyth [mortgagee] and Mary Bonsall, 1820; sale posters, particulars and conditions of sale and map of Lovesgrove, 1843; draft agreement to purchase and opinions and requisitions of titles, 1843-1844, and deed of covenant to produce title deeds.

Deeds, mainly drafts and copies, relating to lead mines owned by the Nanteos estate, comprising an agreement to search and dig for ore upon farms called Blaencenant and Alltfedw, p. Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn, 1847, and surrender, 1860; copy counterpart lease of Cwmystwyth lead mines in the same p., 1848; lease of Bwlchgwyn and Ystumtuen ['Esymtien'] lead mines, p. Llanbadarn Fawr, 1853; surrender of a lease (dated 1853) of Llwybrllwynog, Gwaithcoch and Alltddu lead mines in the same p., 1855; take note to search for ore upon a farm called Ffynonwen in the same p., 1855; copy lease of Cwmsymlog lead mine, p. Papers relating to churches, schools etc., comprising copy bargain and sale by the Rev. Richard Lloyd of p. Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn, clerk, to Edward [Smallwell], bishop of St Davids and Thomas Powell of Nanteos, of a m. called Mochno otherwise Tymawr in Mochno, p. Llangynfelyn, for the endowment and maintenance of a minister to serve the new-built church at Aberystwyth, erected at the expense of the inhabitants of the same at a cost of near £400, 1786; affidavit of Adam Murray, land agent, as to the value of a piece of land lying within the quarry field near the north turnpike gate, Aberystwyth, intended to be exchanged by William Edward Powell with the Rev. Richard Evans, vicar of Llanbadarn Fawr, for the purpose of building a house for the vicar, for lands in p. Llanychaearn, 1817; copy drafts of a conveyance of a parcel of land, part of a field called Caegwaunbadarn, forming part of a m. called Piercefield in p. Deeds relating to the rectory and tithes of p. Nevern, co. Pemb., including a summary of a lease of the said rectory granted by the college of St David in 1545 together with copy warrant signed by Lord Burghley and John Fortescue to make a new lease of the same to Thomas, John and Robert Byrtt, 1596; copy letters patent being a grant in fee farm of the rectory and tithes by James I to Francis Morris of Westminster and Francs Philips of London, 1613; bargain and sale by the said Francis Morris and Francs Philips to Nathaniel Rich, 1615; probate of will of the said Nathaniel Rich of London, 1635 (includes a bequest of profits of seven of his shares in the 'Bermudaes now called Somer Ilands' to his sister and her husband if they will go and inhabit upon them and £150 for transporting themselves and such of their children as they shall think fit to carry with them, a bequest of one other share to his nephew Robert Browne now residing in 'Somer Iland', and fifteen shares for the maintenance of a free school in 'those islands' and desires that some of the Indian children be brought either from Virginia or New England or some other continent of America to be instructed in the knowledge of the true religion, £200; to his nephew Nathaniel Browne 'now in New England with Mr [Thomas] Hooker', £200; the rectory of Nevern to Lord Mandeville in trust to sell; to his nephew Thomas Grimsditch now in the Isle of Providence £40 per annum; his library books and papers to Lord Mandeville with a request that part of them at least he would furnish a library to be set up in the said free school; and to his 'dear friend Mr John Pym' his best gelding and a ring of £20); bargain and sale by lord Mandeville to Morgan Owens of Glashallt, co.
