Hughes v. Turner,

Original bundle of papers in a case between Mary Hughes, wife of James Hughes (appellant), and William Turner, nominee of Sharon Turner (respondent), relating to the will (dated Oct. 1829) and codicil (dated June 1830) of Elizabeth Leighton Bonsall, widow, dec. (d. Dec.1830). Elizabeth Bonsall, the widow of George Bonsall, had been entitled to the rents etc. of her sister, Martha Davies's residual real and personal estate for life, paid to her by trustees. Under Martha's will (dated Dec. 1808), after Elizabeth's death the estate was to go to 'the said George Bonsall, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns'. Sharon Turner was the surviving trustee of Martha Davies's will. Mary Hughes was George Bonsall's sister, and as such a party entitled to the residue of Martha Davies's estate. She appealed to the Prerogative Court of Canterbury that Elizabeth Bonsall's will could make no valid appointment of the estate and effects of Martha Davies. Mary Hughes lost that appeal, and in April-May 1831 appealed to the High Court of Delegates. The case was before the Master of the Rolls, July 1834-April 1835. The papers comprise a printed case for the hearing and appendix in the High Court of Delegates, 1831, a report and a judgement before the Master of the Rolls, July 1834-April 1835, and a schedule of deeds (1740-1807) delivered to Mary Hughes, July 1836.

Turner, Sharon, 1768-1847
