Volume with the preamble ‘A receipt roll of the rentcharge and payments for and in lieu of tithes due and payable to Sir Bruce Chichester baronet for one year ended 1st day of February 1851’. Front cover inscribed '1851'.

Davies v. Davies,

Papers relating to an action in the Cardigan Summer Assizes 1835 in the Kings Bench of Jane Davies, widow, plaintiff, and David Davies of Henllys, William Evans, David Davies of Tretaliesin and Morris Morris, defendants, relating to Ynysfeirig, claimed by the plaintiff to be part of Ynyshir lands, bounded by Foes Tervin, including ‘until the embankment was made by the comm[issione]rs all the lands about Ynysfeiriog were as closely kept and preserved as if they were a field under the house. After the completion of the embankment the people became bolder and their cattle were oftener seen within Foes Tervin but witness [Richard Meredith] drove them off’. The papers include names of people with leave to cut turf on Ynyshir farm, 1792-1784 (*uh?), copies and originals of Ynyshir letting agreements, 1818-1831, copies of notices and letters from the Genau’r-glyn inclosure commissioners, 1823-1829, account book of people allowed to cut turf at Ynyshir, 1826-1832, evidence on behalf of the plaintiff from former tenants and others, briefs for the plaintiff, and lists of jurors and plaintiff’s witnesses, 1835.

Gogerddan estate papers,

Miscellaneous papers, largely relating to George Griffiths Williams’s employment on the Gogerddan estate. Also includes a plan of the deviation of a lane (2152 ft long) from a straight line between a turnpike road and a byroad by John Matthews’s cottage, [1751x1800?], an account of Sir John Vaughan, ancestor of the earl of Lisburne, [1846 watermark], and rules of a proposed Teifi Pools fishing club, 1898.

Llangynfelyn, 1836-1884; release by way of partition of certain estates of Matthew Davies, esq., dec., in p’s Llanbadarn Fawr, Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn and Llangynfelyn, 1837 and 1845; leasess of Penpompren and Melin Penpompren, 1838-1845; conveyances of Bwlchblaennant and Nantynod otherwise Tythin Caemawr otherwise Caemawr, p. George Griffith Williams of Cwmcynfelyn,

Original bundle of papers relating to the financial and property affairs of Colonel George Griffith Williams of Cwmcynfelyn (b. 1832), his parents Matthew Davies Williams of Cwmcynfelyn and Susanna née Griffiths, and other members of his family, comprising deeds, letters and certificates of baptism, marriage and burial. A large number of properties is involved, in the town of Aberystwyth, p’s Llanbadarn Fawr, Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn and Llangwyryfon, and t. Ysgubor-y-coed.

William Swain Crealock and Emma Davies,

Original bundle of papers, comprising an abstract (1857) of the marriage settlement of Matthew Davies of Tanybwlch, esq., and Emma Davies, late of Little Strawberry Hill, co. Mddx, but then of Bryneithin, spinster, 1832; and draft deeds relating to £375, Emma Davies’s share of £1500 charged on her parents’ marriage settlement for the younger children, 1857-1858. Emma Davies married William Swain Crealock of Regent Street, co. Mddx, esq., during the course of 1858.

Aberystwyth harbour works,

Papers relating to a proposed subscription to liquidate a loan of £2000 on account of Aberystwyth harbour works, mainly comprising draft letters from Matthew Davies Williams, Cwmcynfelyn, to the Duke of Newcastle. Includes a draft letter, including ‘I doubt not you have heard of the event of the coroners inquest held yesterday at Wallog. I feel exceedingly anxious to discover the guilty party’, 1838.

Llangorwen church,

A small group of letters and notes between Isaac Williams, William Butterfield, George Llewhellin, Lewis Gilbertson and ‘Madam’, 1838-1856. Also copy (1841 watermark) conveyance and declarations relating to the church, 1841.

Pryse Pryse letters,

Letters, mainly 1891, mainly from Pryse Pryse (1838-1906) to George Griffiths Williams, mainly relating to the administration of the Gogerddan estate. Includes a small group of letters relating to the 1859 general election.

Hunting book,

Volume containing verses entitled ‘All Saints Run 1862’, and various hunting notes, 1897-1898. Loose enclosures include verses entitled ‘The Welter Steeple Chase’, ‘Ode to an old friend who dwelt at Cwmerrae Cefngwyn’, [1863 watermark], and ‘Aberystwyth Races, April 11, 1866’.
