Has met Admiral Hoskyns and Lord Northbrook. George Wightwick Rendel is much missed at the Admiralty. 'The split in the Liberal Party is a very painful one .... I myself after much searching of heart have come to the belief that Gladstone is right & that England, having given Household Suffrage to Ireland must abandon the attempt to bull Ireland.' Feels he is becoming 'the sole pillar of the Liberal party in Montgomeryshire & I feel the weight'. Now does little business work.
