A late eighteenth century manuscript in the hand of John Morris containing a collection of 'carolau' and 'cerddi' by Jonathan Hughes, Llangollen, together with a 'cerdd' and a 'carol' by Daniel Jones, and a carol each by Jo[h]n Edw[ard]s (Glyn Cei[rio]g) and Arthur Jones. All the poems by Jonathan Hughes are included in the author's Bardd a Byrddau (y Mwythig, 1778). At the beginning of the volume is 'Bannau yr llyfyr hwn', being a table of titles and first lines, and the numbers of verses, of each carol. Paste-downs on the inside upper and lower covers contain a note and an 'englyn' by D[afydd] M[orris], Llanfair [Caereinion], 1868, etc.

(I). Verses entitled 'Coffadwriaeth Y Parch. Archddiacon [Thomas] Beynon' by 'Galaethfardd Gwawdrydd', ie Thomas Lloyd Jones ('Gwenffrwd'), Mobile, Alabama, USA, late of Holywell, Flintshire, and 'Verses' by the Reverend Daniel Evans ('Daniel Ddu o Geredigion'), Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford, composed after having read the poem by 'Galaethfardd Gwawdrydd'. The volume is in the hand of Dd Morgan, Penrhyn Deudraeth and is said to have been transcribed on 16 March 1871, and recopied on 5 December 1879, from Awenyddion Gwent a Dyfed: sef y Cyfansoddiadau Barddoniaidd a ennillasant Dlysau, a Gwobrau eraill yn Eisteddfod Caerdydd ... ar yr 20fed, 21ain, a'r 22ain o Awst 1834. A diary, January 1832 to 21 February 1847, of Robert Williams, perpetual curate of Rhydycroesau, near Oswestry from 1838 to 1879. Robert Williams served as curate of Llangernyw, Denbighshire from 1833 to 1836 and was appointed perpetual curate of Llangadwaladr in 1837. The diary, which is written in Welsh, contains references to events in his home district of Conway as well as to the areas where he served as a cleric. Beginning at the end of the volume there are poems by [John Jones] ('Tegid') (1828); a list of books entitled 'Llyvrau yn Ty Deon', 19 August 1832; accounts with booksellers, stationers, etc., 1832-9; extracts from Aristotle's Rhetoric; and lists of clothes ('Rhestr Dillad'), linen ('Lliain') and carpenter's tools ('Oferynau Saer').

A composite volume of three small notebooks containing 'cywyddau', 'englynion' and English verses by 'Sioseb Nerquis', with some 'englynion' by 'I. Ddu' and 'Merddin Wylts [sic] o Nerquis'; and transcripts by Mary Richards, Darowen, c. 1861, of Welsh metrical psalms and hymns by Thomas Roberts ('Philo Cadfan'), Joseph Marpole, William Jones, John Williams (Dolgellau), and anonymous compositions. One of the hymns, dated 1861, is in memory of the Reverend James Hamer 'Offeiriad Llanfihangel [yng Ngwynfa] a Discybl i David Harris [?Carno]'.

Miscellaneous poetry in strict and free metres by Jonathan Hughes (Dolwen, near Llanrwst), Owen Jones (Dolwen), [W. J. Roberts] 'G[wilym]' Cowlyd', 'Owain Fardd' (1891) and E. Williams, and scraps of anonymous and incomplete poems; a holograph letter from [John Williams, Llangernyw] 'Llenor o'r Llwyni', to 'G[wilym] Cowlyd', undated (the addressee's last letter to the writer)'; and a medical recipe.

An essay (33 pp.) on total abstinence entitled 'Traethawd ar y manteision ac anfanteision Llwyrymwrthodiad oddiwrth bob math o wirodydd meddwol o dan arwydd y Rhiban Glas' by 'Eukrateias' (J. Myles Jones, Llansawel). Written at the end are a few miscellaneous englynion, etc., among them being an 'Englyn i Bont ar Llechau, ger Llangadog, sir Gaerfyrddin'.

A notebook of John Thomas [? of Cwm Sidan Fawr, Llansadwrn, Carmarthenshire] containing lists of preachers and their texts at [Calvinistic Methodist] Association meetings at Blaenafon, 1827, Llangeitho, 1829, Aberystwyth, 1830, and elsewhere; unidentified church accounts (members' contributions, bread and wine accounts, etc.) [?1832]; farming memoranda (dates of servicing of cows, etc.), 1830-5; and scraps of verse.

A volume of seventy-three holograph letters of David Williams ('Dewi Heli'; 1799-1869), Castell Deudraeth, Penrhyndeudraeth. They comprise: (A) Thirty-six letters from Bronhaulog [parish of Ceidio, Caernarvonshire], Llanfyllin, Pwllheli, etc. to John Thomas ['Sion Wyn o Eifion'], Chwilog, 1816-46 (books read by the writer and the addressee; critical observations on poetry mutually exchanged by the writer and the addressee; an opinion on contemporary English poets; the writer's illness; the writer's opinion of 'Mr Williams Werne' and of 'witty Preachers'; references to Welsh books and periodicals, e.g. Gorchestion Beirdd Cymru, Seren Gomer, etc.; the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act; observations on the dictionary of [William] Owen [-Pughe] and an appreciation of his works; the writer's love of music and of musical instruments, with special references to the flute; an appreciation of [David Thomas] 'Dafydd Ddu [Eryri]'; the writer's study of globes; French books from Plashen for the writer; the writer's desire to improve his mastery of Welsh; an opinion on the administering of the Sacrament to the addressee; numerous references to the addressee's health; a report of the Lleyn-Eifionydd Bible Society written by the writer; an appreciation of Miss Higginbottom, 'a female literary character' well known to the addressee, and the writer's meeting with her; copies of the compositions of 'Pedrog Penfoul alias T. A commonplace book of Merioneth interest largely in the hand of Robert Prys Morris ('Robyn Frych'), Dolgellau. It contains 'awdlau' and 'cywyddau' by Tudur Penllyn, Risiart Phylip ('o Ardudwy'), Gutto'r Glyn, Huw Arwystl, Wiliam Llyn, Sion Mowddwy, Owain Gwynedd, Iolo Goch, Vaughan Jones ('Fychan y Gwyndill') (19c), Dafydd ab Ieuan ab Owain, Simwnt Fychan, Sion Dafydd Penllyn, Watkin ab Richard, Tudur Aled, D[afy]dd Ll[wyd] ab Lly[wely]n ab Gruffydd, Gruffydd Phylip ('o Ardudwy'], Ffoulk Prys ('mab Edmunt Prys Archdiagon Meirionydd'), Dafydd Ddu Hiraddug, Ll[ywely]n Goch ap Meurig Hen, Morris Dwyferch (recte Dwyfech) and Dafydd ap Gwilym, together with an incomplete index; records relating to the Quaker burial ground at Llwyn-du, parish of Llwyngwril, being (i) a document signed by Thomas Westcombe on behalf of the Western Quarterly Meeting of the Society of Friends, 1876, allowing (with reservations) the application of Robert Pugh, Llwyngwril, for the ground to be used for interment by the Wesleyan Congregation at Llwyngwril, (ii) a covering letter, 1876, from Thomas Westcombe, Worcester to Robert Pugh, and (iii) a note signed by W[illia]m Norris, Coalbrookdale, 1876, on the trusts of the ground, with specific reference to the conveyance of 1756 to Abraham Darby of Coalbrookdale of the Llwyndu and Tyddyn y Garreg burial grounds; an account by Robert Prys Morris, 1883, of the early schooling of his son John Prys at Dolgellau, and an entry by Robert Prys Morris in 1877 relating to the death of his mother Elinor Morris in 1875; Merioneth pedigrees (e.g. Owen of Dolgellau, Edwards of Talgarth, Owen of Cae'rberllan, Anwyl of Erylaran, etc., Vaughan of Hengwrt); annotated lists of place names in the separate townships of the hundreds of Talybont and Estimaner extracted from a rental, 1875, and of place names from two eighteenth century parish records of Towyn; particulars of foreign mission collections by children of Salem, Dolgellau and of Llyn y Penmaen churches, 1882, the secretary and treasurer being Robert Prys Morris; an adjudication by Robert Prys Morris, 1883, on 'Traethawd Hanesyddol - Abergynolwyn a'r gymdogaeth yn ystod yr haner can' mlynedd diweddaf'; an account by W. Wynne Ffoulkes of the tumulus known as Tomen Pentref near Dolgellau (from Archaeologia Cambrensis, 1874, pp. 313-19); etc. Other sources quoted by the scribe include a paper lent by Mr Owain Owain, Hendref, Abergynolwyn (p. 47) and manuscripts owned by Owain Williams, Waunfawr (pp. 42, 73 etc.).

A small volume containing Welsh poetry by and in the autograph of Richard Williams, blacksmith, Tremadog, Caernarvonshire (d. 1851). A note by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') on the fly-leaves reads 'Gwaith a llawysgrifen Richard Williams, tad [Richard Williams] Beuno a [John Williams] Ioan Madog, yw yr Ysgriflyfr hwn.' The contents include 'Awdl Goffadwriaeth am W.A. Madocks yswain ...' another 'awdl' described by Myrddin Fardd as 'Awdl Marwnad Dewi Deudraeth', and 'Cywydd Marwnad Humphrey Jones Gesal Gyfarch.'.

A volume containing about ninety letters, 1840-63, from the Reverend Morris Williams ('Nicander'), writing from Bangor, Amlwch and Llanrhyddlad, to Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd'), with a draft copy of one letter, 1850, from 'Eben Fardd' to 'Nicander'. A few of the letters have been printed in Adgof Uwch Ahghof. Also in the volume are a letter, 1865, from 'Nicander' to an unnamed correspondent and two letters, 1868, one incomplete, from 'Nicander' to [Richard Roberts] 'Bardd Treflys'. At the end of the volume are three letters, 1862, from Eunice Jones (Liverpool), daughter of Peter Jones ('Pedr Fardd'), writing from Clifton and Llanrhyddlad Rectory, to 'Eben Fardd' (enquiring about the connection between her father's family on his mother's side and the Wynnes of Glyn Llifon; 'englynion' by 'Pedr Fardd'). Pasted into the volume near the beginning is a cutting containing a letter, 1849, from M. Williams, ['Nicander'], Amlwch to John James ('Ioan Meirion'); there is also a loose cutting of a photograph of 'Nicander'.

A composite volume lettered on the spine 'Llenorion Lleyn ac Eifionydd' and described in the old typewritten handlist of Cwrtmawr Manuscripts as 'Llyfr Cywyddau etc. R. Llys Padrig. etc. fol.' The first part is in an early nineteenth century hand or hands (watermarks 1803 and 1804) and contains a list of sheriffs for Caernarvonshire to 1796; a list of arms; and 'cywyddau', etc. by Rhisiart Cynwal, Gruffydd Phylip, Sion Dafydd Las o Nanau, Owen Gruffydd, Lewis Menai, Ieuan Tew, Sion Tudur, Sion Phylip, Edmwnd Prys, Ieuan Llwyd, Gruffydd Hafren and Watcin Clywedog. The remainder of the manuscript (from p. 56 to the end) is almost entirely of later date and is written in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') and others; this section includes 'cywyddau', 'englynion', etc. by some of the poets already mentioned and by Ffoulk Wyn 'yn enw Owen Madryn y Crwner', Owain Waed Da, W[illiam] Llyn, Evan ap Tudur Penllyn, Howel ap Feinallt, Morys ap Ifan ap Einion o Lyn, Owain ap Llewelyn ap y Moel, Gruffydd Grug, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd o Fathafarn, Robin y prydydd bach, Huw Pennant, Sion Cain, Iolo Goch, Sion Brwynog (incomplete), Huw Llyn, Syr Dafydd Trefor, Ieuan ap Madog ap Dafydd, Tudur Penllyn, [Lewis Môn] (beginning only), Hugh ap Risiart ap Dd, Morys Dwyfech, Cadwaladr Gruffydd, Gruffydd Bodwrdda, Rowland Hugh, Lewis Glynn, Dafydd Namor [sic] o blwy Beddgelert, Howel Ceiriog, Wiliam Cynwal, D. Ddu o Eryri am iddo esgeuluso dyfod i ymweled ag ef pan fu yn rhoddi tro yn Eifionydd yn 1801 - y rhan gyntaf o'r Co. gan Wm. Jones. Bardd ieuangc o Bentraeth yn Môn, y rhan olaf gan fardd o Arfon', dated 'Llanddeiniolen near Caernarvon Septr. 4th. 1802' and addressed to 'Mr. O. Jones, No. 148 Upper Thames Street, London' [? in the autograph of David Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu Eryri')] and an extract from [Yr Eurgrawn Wesleyaidd, 1824], pp. 341-6 ('Hanes Cantref y Gwaelod', etc.). Some of the poems are said to be copied from the manuscript of Rhys Jones 'o'r Blaenau' and William Elias, Plas y Glyn, Anglesey.

A volume written almost entirely in the autograph of John Roberts ('Siôn Lleyn'; 1749-1817) containing poetry largely of his own composition, with some items by other poets. The volume is in two sections and there is a list of contents at the beginning covering pp. 1-145 in the first section. The wording on the title-page is 'Trysorfa yr Awen sef Casgliad o Ganiadau, Sion Lleyn, 1787,' but some of the items are of later date. The other poets represented are David Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu o'r Eryri'), Robert Prich[ar]d (Robert Prichiard Sion,'Robin'r Aber'), T[h]om[a]s Edward[s] Nant, D. Edward, Lewis Morys, John Hughes ('pandy bach pentre ucha yn Lleyn'), Richard Powel, Evan Owens, Glan-yllynnay (Llanystumdwy), MrEfan Efans ('Bardd hir') [Ieuan Brydydd Hir], Evan Rich[ar]d (Bryncroes), [David Jones] Dafydd Sion Pierce ('Dafydd Brydydd hir'), Dafydd ap Sion, Owen Griffith, Hugh Lloed [sic] Cynfal, Goronwy Owen(s) ('Goronwy Ddu o Fôn'), Edmund Prys and Griffith Philip. One or two items (p. 2 in the first section and pp. 142-5 at the end of the volume) appear to be in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion'). One 'cywydd' in the volume (p. 118 in the first section) is headed 'Annerch Ieuan Bryncroes i Sion Lleyn wedi dyfod i ymweled a mi i Chappel Rhyd-y-Clafrdy pryd yr oeddwn yno yn cadw ysgol y fln 1791 y mis Medi' . The volume contains some notes in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), press cuttings and also a copy (printed) of Marwnad, neu Goffadwriaeth y Brawd Robert Roberts, o Sir Gaernarfon : yr hwn a ymadawodd â'r Byd hwn Tachwedd 28, 1802. Yn llawn 40 mlwydd Oed : wedi bod yn pregethu'r Efengyl 15 mlynedd. 8 pp. (Caernarfon : Argraphwyd gan T. Roberts, n.d.) by S. Lleyn. On p. 4 in the second section are 'Trioedd y Crinwas neu'r Cybydd'.

A notebook with clasp used as a commonplace-book by John Peter ('Ioan Pedr') c. 1851-56. The contents include 'englynion' headed 'Cyngor Goronwy Owain i Ellis y Cowper', verses entitled 'L'antienne Nationale' with a Welsh translation, the Lord's Prayer written in several languages, items of verse by [Thomas Edwards] 'Twm o'r Nant', [Walter Davies] 'Gwallter Mechain', [Elis Roberts] Ellis Cowper [sic], [Owen Griffith] Y. Meirion, Huw Morys, Glyn Ceiriog and R. Davis, Nantglyn 'y teiliwr', etc., 'Traddiad [sic] o hanes Gwr Caer-Gai Llanuwchlyn', translations into Welsh of extracts from Rousseau, Le Sage, Pascal, Descartes, etc., observations entitled 'Taith "o'm hamgylch fy hunan", vocabularies and grammatical notes.

A notebook probably in the autograph of the Reverend Evan Gurnos Jones ('Gurnos'; 1840-1903) containing press cuttings giving the substance of an address by J. B. Gough at a temperance meeting in Cardiff, pasted over part of a poem (written in pencil) entitled 'Merch Cae'r Melwr (Rhiangerdd)'; 'Nodiadau or Awdl y Beibl' [cf. the explanatory notes printed at the end of Awdl y Beibl, buddugol yn Eisteddfod Freiniol Bangor, 1874 (Caernarfon: H. Humphreys, [1875])]; verses in pencil headed 'Harri Bach Plas Llangefni'; and an outline of a lecture on temperance; etc. At the reverse end are more press cuttings and notes on temperance and 'englynion' between 'Gurnos' and [T. E. Watkins] 'Eiddil Ifor'.

A notebook designated 'Copy No. 2' containing brief accounts of Nefyn and Tre'r Ceiri, with notes on Capel Odo, Bettws, Cappel [sic] Angelog, Eglwys Fair and Capel Ergan, etc. At the reverse end is a record of the sermon texts of various preachers at Tremadog chapel, 1809-37 ('Coflyfr o'r Testynau yn Nghapel Tremadog' - the exact dates are not given, only the year), followed by items of poetry including 'Awdl ar Brydferthwch' by [John Edwards] 'Eos Glan Twrch' and 'Awdl ar ddyfodiad teulu Tudur i Orsedd Prydain' by 'Owain Cyfeiliog, Bryn yr Awen, Gorphenaf 15, 1821'. The hand is probably that of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') throughout.

An exercise-book marked on the first page 'Copy No. 16' containing transcripts probably by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of poetry by Evan Pritchard ('Ieuan Lleyn'; 1769-1832), with one or two items by John Roberts ('Sion Lleyn'), W[illia]m T[h]omas [?1790-1861] and William Williams. The final item ('Cywydd St. Cowrda' by [Hywel Rheinallt]) has no name appended to it and is incomplete. The poems appear to have been transcribed in separate sections and put together later.
