[Farmer & horse]

A farmer facing the camera holds the reins of a horse. Attached to the horse is a light plough. At the far edge of the field is a line of poplars. See also 4689/157 and 4689/158.

[Barn, Avenida John D Evans, Trevelin]

A bird flies over a desolate looking barn. This is the barn mentioned on page 194 of 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer, 1991) " ...one day I drew onto a canvas an old wooden barn that stood beside the Avenida John D Evans. I started to paint and as I did so the colours became grey and dull. It was my forty-fifth canvas and I knew the spell was broken. I never painted another picture of Patagonia."

[Farmer, horse & plough]

A farmer facing the camera holds the reins of a horse. Attached to the horse is a light plough. At the far edge of the field is a line of poplars. See also 4689/156 & 4689/158.

[Capel Bethel, Tir Halen]

Gable end and main entrance of Bethel chapel, Tir Halen - a small brick built chapel set in scrubland. Slide 4689/181 is a variant of this.

[Esquel]

A view of part of Esquel from across the valley. The town can be identified by reference to the mountains behind the settlement.

[Hillside and poplars]

A small stand of poplars on the left of the photograph, a bare hillside on the right with mountains in the far distance.

[Path & fence]

The eye is led into the picture by a wooden fence on the left running downhill. Parallel to this is a footpath leading to houses, possibly Trevelin, in the distance.

[Cwm Hyfryd]

A small boy, possibly Iolo Green, in the middle distance walks away from the camera. In front of him is a vista of scrub and grazing land leading to the mountains of Gorsedd y Cwmwl. This and 4689/227-8 may be from the location mentioned on p170 of 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer 1991) "On we galloped to the foothills of the Cordillera to a corral where stallions fought over the mares. Iolo told me to draw them but gave me no time, for he was away again chasing Gigo over the wild land that was his home"
