[Esquel]

A view of part of Esquel from across the valley. The town can be identified by reference to the mountains behind the settlement.

[Hillside and poplars]

A small stand of poplars on the left of the photograph, a bare hillside on the right with mountains in the far distance.

[Driveway leading to a large, modern house]

A large modern house with a slate roof and dormer windows. The house is approached by a drive lined with roses. A plaque on the front of the building, visible in slide 4690/216, has the wording 'Republica Argentina' & an unidentified logo. This may be the house of Don Diego Neill, Intendente of Los Alerces National Park with whom Kyffin Williams stayed for a time in December 1968. See slide 4690/216 for another view of this house.

[House, Los Alerces]

A modern stone built house. A plaque on the front of the building has the wording 'Republica Argentina' & an unidentified logo. This may be the house of Don Diego Neill, Intendente of Los Alerces National Park with whom Kyffin Williams stayed for a time in December 1968. Slide 4690/215 shows the driveway approaching the house.

[Mountains, Tierra del Fuego]

Forest in the foreground gives way to mountains in the distance.

On pages 190-191 of 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer, 1991) KW recalls sketching on the shore of Lake Fagnano, the most southerly lake in the world. This photograph was probably taken on that expedition. Slide 4690/243 is similar.

[Snow & Rocks III]

Patches of striated bedrock and scree surrounded by snow, similar to slides 4690/250 & 4690/251. Believed to be in the vicinity of Ushuaia.

[Vintage Ford Car]

A well maintained four door Ford convertible painted in Khaki and Red with a registration plate '14.109, La Pampa'

[Vintage Ford Car II]

A four door convertible Ford, probably a Model A, ca.1930 in khaki and red. See also slides 4690/264 & 266 for views of the same car.

[Gauchos near La Pampa]

A group of gauchos pose for the camera, their horses visible behind them. Slides 4690/268-277 are all from the same occasion

[Horses]

Three horses, tethered and saddled wait patiently in the evening light.

[Rock formations]

Eroded & stratified limestone exhibiting features associated with different types of erosion, in particular aeolian erosion. The rock formations seen here are reminiscent of those on the left hand side of both 'Road across the Desert' (NMW A 17589) & Lle Cul (NLW PG04823).
