[Gauchos near La Pampa]

A group of gauchos pose for the camera, their horses visible behind them. Slides 4690/268-277 are all from the same occasion

[Rock formations]

Eroded & stratified limestone exhibiting features associated with different types of erosion, in particular aeolian erosion. The rock formations seen here are reminiscent of those on the left hand side of both 'Road across the Desert' (NMW A 17589) & Lle Cul (NLW PG04823).

[Horses grazing, Cwm Hyfryd]

In the foreground are a mass of flowers, possibly Oxeye daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare). Beyond them two horses are grazing in the middle distance. On the horizon can be seen Gorsedd y Cwmwl. A variant of slide 4690/290.

[Inland cliff, possibly Los Altares]

Limestone cliffs forming a promontory in the desert. This cliff is reminiscent of the cliffs in two KW paintings - 'Los Altares' (NLW PB7139) & 'Los Altares' (NLW 200202405)

[Horses]

Three horses, tethered and saddled wait patiently in the evening light.

[Horseback rider & riverbed]

A man on horseback negotiating his way up the bed of a small river lined with trees. Slide 4690/297 is a view of the same riverbed without the rider.

[Wooden jetty, Bariloche IV]

View of a decaying wooden jetty photographed from the lake shore, the Andes visible in the distance. One of a series of photos by KW of a decaying wooden jetty

[Monument to Christopher Columbus, Gaiman]

The Welsh Inscription on the monument to Christopher Columbus unveiled on May 5, 1893 (it is said to be the first in the whole of South America). The four sides of its pedestal carry inscriptions alluding to Columbus in Italian, Welsh, English and Castilian Spanish.

[Capel Seion, Bryn Gwyn]

View shows the front (in shade) and the right hand wall of the chapel.

Slide 4689/20 shows the same chapel from a different angle but is underexposed.

[Dyffryn Camwy, Lle Cul]

A small farm and stand of trees near the Chubut River, as seen from a nearby scree slope. This is possibly the farm of Ceri Ellis, mentioned on pages 144-145 0f 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer 1991). Slide 4689/34 is a variant of this view.
