Receipts, accounts, &c,

A notebook, or notebooks, containing receipts from various persons to Rees Roberts, 1759-1771, entries by Edward William, senior, concerning work done, 1787-1789, and 'a whimsical song' by Iolo Morganwg, etc. A loose sheet containing an account of money received of esq. Jones, ?1773-1775, partly in the autograph of Edward William, senior, and partly in that of Iolo Morganwg. Endorsed by EW: 'My fathers old Account Book to 1790.'

Williams, Edward, 1715?-1795

English poems,

An imperfect collection of English poems by Iolo Morganwg, with an index to the contents. The entire collection contained 55 or more pages, and those preserved here are numbered 7-22, ?27-28, 33-40, and 43-48. The contents include early versions of some of the poems printed in Poems Lyric and Pastoral (1794).

Iolo Morganwg.

Poems Lyric and Pastoral,

'Proposals for printing by Subscription. Poems, Lyric and Pastoral. By Edward Williams, a self-tutored Journey-man Mason, of the County of Glamorgan, in Wales ...', followed by a few of the poems printed in Poems Lyric and Pastoral (1794), Vol. I.

Salmau Iolo Morganwg,

'Salmau Iolo Morganwg, Rhann I, yn adgyweiriedig, sef y rhai na chymmerwyd i'r Llyfr Argraphedig [i.e., Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch, Cyfrol I (Merthyr Tydfil, 1812)], Hyd Rif [CXXX].' This volume was apparently meant to replace Part I in the series numbered 48-57 (NLW MSS 21336-45A) (see note inside front cover). The numbers on a slip of paper in the autograph of Taliesin Williams, continued inside the back cover, refer to the Salmau from this volume which were included in Cyfrol II (1834).

Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch, Cyfrol II,

'Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch (Cyfrol II)...'. In the note, dated 7 August 1826, in NLW MS 21339A Iolo Morganwg refers to this volume thus: 'Gweler ym mhrifddarpar yr ail gyfrol 74' [i.e. Salmau]. The collection is similar to, but not identical with, the first pages of the second volume published by Taliesin Williams in 1834: there are some hymns in the MS which are not in the printed volume, and vice versa. There is also a draft of the beginning of a preface (to be found elsewhere).

Iolo Morganwg.

Dernyn[n]au Salmau, &c.,

A bundle of loose papers contains hymns, largely crossed out, by Iolo Morganwg. One sheet which Iolo Morganwg has used contains printed Proposals for printing by subscription, the Celtic Remains... By the late Lewis Morris, esq: And augmented By Walter Davies, of All Souls College, Oxford.

Iolo Morganwg'; (b) A Calendar of Saints' Days (see also Iolo Manuscripts, Second edition, 1888, p. 152). On the first page before a, is the following note: 'Allan o hen Galander mewn ysgriflyfr a ysgrifenwyd ynghylch 1500, ym meddiant Mr Thomas Davies o Ddolgelleu'; (c) More instructions, but for Jan.-March only. 'O Hen galander a wnaethpwyd yn y flwyddyn 1442 y tynnwyd y gyfarwyddyn yma. (ebe Llyfr John Wiliam o'r Twtsiwn)'. Inside the front cover are 'englynion' by Edwd Richards [sic], Ystrad Meuryg.

Iolo Morganwg.

Llwyd Hir,

A notebook marked (?by Taliesin Williams) 'Llwyd Hir'. On the cover EW has written 'Geiriau Cymreig cymmysgedig' and 'Examine this for the History of the Bards. Many things of Great Importance'. There are also four loose sheets which are similar in form and content, and which may have belonged to this manuscript. See note inside front cover concerning ink and pencil crossings.

Iolo Morganwg.
