Two memorandum-books or notebooks which belonged to Iolo Morganwg. The earlier of the two, marked 'Memoranda Hints. &c. 1805', contains triads, proverbs, 'englynion' and other verses, music, particulars of the contents of 'Ancient Historical Documents relating to Wales and the Welsh Nation', a work in two volumes 'To be published by E. Wms in 1807', various Welsh words with their meanings, a list of printed collections of Welsh poetry, including hymns, notes on versification, and a list of 'Traits in the Southwalian from the Troubadorian Poetry', etc. The other which has fewer entries contains, among other things, a note headed 'Ofergoelion am y Tylwyth Teg ym Morganwg', a list of Copper Smoke Subscribers and Judges, a few recipes, and a series of 'Pennillion Diarhebgoel' by Iolo Morganwg.

Two memorandum-books, sewn together, containing entries by Iolo Morganwg, [c. 1780]-[c. 1789]. The contents include pedigrees, a draft petition concerning the living of Cheriton, vacant by the death of Mr Williams, on behalf of an unnamed person with a wife and five children who recommends himself 'only as a poor prisoner that has been long detained in the comfortless walls of a Jail by a merciless creditor', accounts, a 'Cynghor Brithodl' attributed to Llywelyn ab Hywel beginning 'Clyw fy nghyngor a gwna doraeth', lines beginning, 'Porthwr moch clywch bawb ei ochain' attributed to Charls ? Daf .... Maredydd, two stanzas beginning 'Clywch bawb ar alarnad a chaniad achwynion' (all crossed out), agricultural queries, some Gwent and Glamorganshire words with their meanings, and a copy of the inscription contained in MS 128/5 [NLW MS 21418E].

Twenty letters, 1879-1896, from May [Mary Elizabeth] Hedley (née Williams), Yester House, Middlesbrough, to her brother Aneurin Williams. May was the eldest child of Edward and Mary Williams and was married to Dr John Hedley.

Thirty-seven letters, 1882-1887, from Mary Petherick, Abergavenny and Hereford, to Aneurin WIlliams, her first cousin once removed.
Williams was later the executor of Petherick's will (see F18).

Some four hundred and forty letters, 1879-1899, from Mary Elizabeth Williams (née Trick), Middlesbrough, to her second son Aneurin Williams.
Also included is a letter to her grandson Iolo [Aneurin Williams], 17 June 1899, and a letter to 'Mary', 8 December 1885.

Copies of the elegies on Richard Morris, President of the Cymmrodorion Society, by 'Guttun Gwrecsam' [i.e. John Edwards (Sion Ceiriog)] and 'Risiart Jones o Drefdraeth ym Mon', both dated 1781, and of the statement known as 'Hyriad Gutyn Gwrecsam' (cf. Y Gwyliedydd (1825), pp. 78, 109).

'Some Account of an Ancient Welsh Colony, And their Descendants at present existing, In the interior parts of North-America. by Edward Williams...'. Inside the front cover is 'A Sketch of the Country of the Madogwys 1792' by William Owen. At the reverse end is a note written by (Capt.) Wm Jones, thanking his friend Edwd Williams for the perusal of this manuscript; 'hopes to hear more Authenticated accounts in the Course of this ensuing Year - would also be glad at any time of a line when convinient respecting plans in agitation'. His address.

Fifteen manuscript tune books belonging to Iolo Morganwg, including five volumes of hymn-tunes composed by him for his Welsh hymns or 'salmau', each entitled 'Salmyddiaeth Iolo Morganwg' or variants thereof (E2/1-5), together with several others containing at least some salmau (E2/8-12). Also included are volumes containing English hymns (E2/6, 11), Tribannau (E2/13) and Scottish airs (E2/15).

Nine leaves containing poetry by Richard Watkins, Jenkin Richard, William Jenkin, and Edward Dafydd, and 'cywyddau' by Mastr Harri and Ieuan Tew Brydydd, probably in the hand of Jenkin Richard (cf. Llanover MS B 12). Some of the leaves, if not all of them, may have belonged to Llanover B 12, although the 'englynion' (?by Jr, i.e. Jenkin Richard) beginning, 'Rhaggreith mewn gwenieith syn digoni - bagad' are already to be found in that manuscript on p. 142 (with the exception of the last 'englyn', which is different).

(a) A notebook (32 pp.) in the autograph of Dafydd Jones o Drefriw, containing 'cywyddau' by Edmwnd Prys and Wiliam Cynwal and a brief account of the dispute between them, etc. The 'cywyddau' are numbered 1-3, 50-54, and 36. On the cover EW has written 'Fragments of Edmund Prys, & Wm Cynwal', and 'Iolo Morganwg ai piau';
(b & c) Loose papers containing a list of books, a statement of accounts between David Jones and Richard Lathrop, a draft title-page for 'Y Greal Bychan', and poetry by RT, etc.

A notebook marked (?by Taliesin Williams) 'Llwyd Hir'. On the cover EW has written 'Geiriau Cymreig cymmysgedig' and 'Examine this for the History of the Bards. Many things of Great Importance'. There are also four loose sheets which are similar in form and content, and which may have belonged to this manuscript. See note inside front cover concerning ink and pencil crossings.

A gasglwyd yn y Blynyddau 1804 a 1805. Gan Thos Evans neu ym mysg y beirdd, Tomos Glyn-Cothi (1805)'. There is a list of contents at the beginning.

Another of the 'long books' of Glamorganshire copyist, Llywelyn Siôn (cf. Llanstephan MS 134, 'Llyfr Hir Amwythig'; NLW MS 970, known as the Merthyr Tydfil MS or 'Llyfr Hir Llywarch Reynolds'; and 'Llyfr Hir Llanharan', in the Cardiff Central Library). The first poems in this collection are wanting and those we have are numbered from 48-[528], but there are several gaps and the text is often imperfect or incomplete owing to the very fragile and decayed state of the manuscript. Many of the poems are also to be found in the manuscripts referred to above, although not always in the same sequence.

A Notebook containing what appears to be a letter to an unnamed correspondent, in the autograph of John Williams, St Athan. The writer begins by saying that he has received the addressee's letter, and for his own convenience in replying to it he will gather its substance under two heads: The addressee desired him (a) to write some kind of answer to the letter of 'Mr Rhywun' to 'Mr R. Jones or ysdrad ffin', and (b) to let the addressee know in his next letter who 'Mr Rhywun' is [this interpretation is disputed by the Rev. Gomer M. Roberts]. After dealing with these points the writer goes on to give a highly critical account of a Methodist meeting he happened lately to attend. The letter is in Welsh and is incomplete.

A notebook containing a list of 'Subscribers to the History of the Ancient British bards and Druids by E. Williams'. At the reverse end are extracts from Hackluit's Voyages (London, 1589). The names include some signatures.

Three notebooks containing the names of subscribers to Poems Lyric and Pastoral (1794).

Miscellaneous papers partly in the autograph of Lewis Morris, sewn together in a paper cover to form one volume. The contents are: (a) Notes by Lewis Morris, Sept. 1754, on the title-page, etc., of the Latin-Welsh Dictionary of Dr Thomas Wiliems of Trefriw (Peniarth MS 228). (b) A transcript of Dr Thomas Wiliems's preface to his Dictionary. (c) 'Extracts out of a large folio pedigree book at Llannerch', pp. 910-921. (d) 'Llyma ddosbarth kerdd dant ...', 'Llyma bed[war] Mesur ar hugain cerdd dant', etc. For the latter see The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales, Vol. III (London, 1807), p. 445. Cf. also Iolo A. Williams MSS 15, 136. (e) 'Cerdd Dannau - Extracts from an old Manuscript of Sr Wat Wms Wynne.' See op. cit., p. 625. (f) A copy of the Commission [a note subsequently added reads 'i.e. the Copy from whence this was taken'] was Copied Exactly from the Original now at Mostyn AD 1693, where the Silver Harp also is'. (g) Three sketches of John Parry's harp, 1755, together with eight lines from a cywydd 'I ofyn telyn gan Jenkin Trevor o drefalun i Sion, q. W. Lleyn' beginning, 'O untant i wythdant oedd'. (These sketches have been copied by Thomas Price, 'Carnhuanawc', into the volume which is now NLW MS 1464D. See letter from T. Price to [Taliesin Williams], 6 Feb. 1841). Iolo Morganwg has noted the contents on the cover and at the top of the first page. He has also written some observations on the pedigrees in c above.

Seventeen leaves from a manuscript containing miscellaneous notes and extracts in the autograph of Lewis Morris.
There are some personal memoranda on p. 72: 'Yr amser yr eis i i Lunden oedd mai y 7ed 1723', &c. At the bottom of this page EW has written: 'Llaw Lewys Morys yw'r un uchod ond nis gwn o ba gornel o'r byd y daeth i'm llaw - odid nad dalen o rhyw a fu gennyf, ag a syrthiodd ohono'.
