Cannot at present see Members of the Cyprus Conciliation Committee, but will consider any views they may put in writing. If the members air their opinions in public, this will not help the Cyprus situation.

Has been unable to see Lord Home, the Secretary of State [for Commonwealth Relations] because he is out of the country. Will now wait to see recipient. Copy.
Letter from Clement Davies to the Earl of Home, 25 July 1956,
Has seen Tshekedi Khama and writes at his request. He [Khama] wishes consideration to be given to his case as he presents it, and will remain in this country for some time while recipient is on holiday. Copy.
Letter from Tshekedi Khama to Clement Davies, 23 April 1957,
Is surprised that, up to 8 April, no communication had been received by the Secretary of State [Lord Home] from the High Commissioner for Bechuanaland. Does not wish Clement Davies to speak of this to the Commonwealth Relations Office, but it is clear that the delay is that of officialdom, not of the backward people.
Letter from Dr Leonard Hall, London, to Clement Davies, 20 February 1958,
Has discussed with Tshekedi and Seretse Khama possible ways of exploiting the coal found in Bechuanaland. A further discussion is to follow.
Letter from Tshekedi Khama to Clement Davies, 17 September 1958,
Since the Protectorate Government has dropped the matter, there is no point in Clement Davies taking any action. Would like Clement Davies to note paragraph 2 of the Resident Commissioner's letter.
Letter from Clement Davies to Robert Clark, 4 December 1958,
Is pleased developments are satisfactory and hopes they will end so. Copy.
Letter from Derick Mirfin to Michel Schuwer, Secretary of the Western European Conference for the Amnesty to Spanish Prisoners and Political Exiles, 16 March 1961. The Liberal International is unable to be formally linked to the Spanish Amnesty Conference. Lord Beveridge has been given instructions to ensure his name is deleted from the list of British signatories asking for an Amnesty in Spain, for if Beveridge signed it and then found the leaders of Communism in Western Europe amongst the signatories, he would never have agreed to sign it. Regrets having to arrive at this decision for initially Liberal International was strongly opposed to Franco's regime in Spain. But does not consider that Appeal signed by 'the Soviet tyranny' would constitute an effective protest. French. Copy.
