William Haigh to Lady Violet Bonham-Carter,

Has been talking to Fothergill re Colne Valley. The Liberal Executive at Colne Valley rejected any kind of Joint Committee with the Conservatives. But the latter have made it clear that they will allow the Liberal candidate a free run if a name acceptable to them is put forward. Must take care not to offend Liberal supporters who have leanings to the Left. Thus it is essential to 'keep to the middle of the road and on sound Liberal lines deviating neither one way nor the other.' If recipient allows her name to go forward, then the Liberals will have a splendid opportunity to win Colne Valley. Copy.
