Written at Parker's Hotel, Naples. The accounts of Christmas received from the children. Describes the weather. Nothing but good should be spoken of the 'revival'. People are mad about it at the moment and are thus easy to offend.

The Merioneth County Council 'needs a good deal of stiffening'. The enormous success of the Llandrindod meeting. Goes to Llanfyllin the next day and then London.

I said M. must hold back his act for a few months until temper subsides. ...'. The Shrewsbury gathering was 'a memorable success'. Alfred Thomas wishes to give a grand reception to the delegates the evening before the Conference and lunch and tea on the day of the Conference.
Written at Gd. Hotel des Iles Britanniques, Menton. Has heard from no one at Garthcelyn for several days. Are en route to Cannes. McKenna's brother came to say that McKenna has left prematurely for London on the orders of Herbert Gladstone. Gladstone said there was to be a general election in March. McKenna's brother had heard a similar report from Carson who was at Monte Carlo. 'I think personally a good deal will depend on the results of the bye-elections. But one must be prepared'. 'This holiday has done me no end of good & if a general election comes I fell physically quite fit for it'.

'You will see how [the] Greenock paper attacks them for making money out of me. Quite right especially as I got none of it. Glasgow mean to pay my expenses'. Saw the Bishop of St Asaph that day who claimed that Balfour's intention was to be defeated in the Commons, resign and to force the Liberals to form a government.

There is to be a conference at Shrewsbury on the 24th to arrange a Sul y Casgliad throughout Wales. The aim is to raise £10,000. 'Govt. majorities a little better this week - but they'll soon tire & droop'.
Written at House of Commons. Poor Massingham - 'very cut up - quite a broken man'. Has attacked the Government over Somaliland. The Government will be lucky to survive that night and can 'only be saved by Joe's men'. The mover and Asquith alone are to speak on the Liberal side.
Written at Lewes. Came to play golf with R.O.D. and Owen Owen. It seems that the Japanese 'have delivered a very smashing blow to the Russians. This will I hope bring peace'.
Written at House of Commons. His speech in the Commons the previous night was an outstanding success; there is a verbatim report in the Times. Resolutions to guillotine supply before 31st March are to be introduced - 'There will I hope be a row. I am off home to think out a speech'.
