Is annoyed that Uncle Lloyd is indignant that he [D. Lloyd George] does not participate in Commons debates - 'I can't rush in like a babbling idiot to express my views upon every conceivable topic. ... Unless he restrains himself I'll throw it up in disgust'. Is to dine with Dr Clifford and his son.

Written at House of Commons. Legal matters. 'Stuart Rendel has just invited me to dine with his son-in-law Henry Gladstone. I eluded it as it meant dress-suit'. Encloses the notes for a speech to be delivered on the Welsh Church at the Tabernacle; would appreciate the comments of William George and Richard Lloyd.

Written at House of Commons. Legal matters. D. Lloyd George will not be able to make his speech the following evening; 'Mabon - who is very self-important in his way - tells me that he must get half-an-hour at least otherwise he doesn't speak at all. That means 40 minutes'. There are too many other speakers so that D. Lloyd George will have only five to ten minutes; 'If that be the case I shall probably refuse to speak. I am not going to mangle a good speech'. Is to speak at Finsbury that evening.

Written at House of Commons. Will discuss the 'agency' with J. Herbert Lewis the following week. Has received nothing from the Paternoster. Spoke last night on the Tithe Bill: 'It will be an invaluable measure for us when we get Disestablishment & a measure which no Liberal Ministry would be allowed to pass'. Has amendments to propose on Thursday. Is to speak for Acland in Yorkshire the following day.

Written at House of Commons. His contribution to the debate on the Tithe Bill - '... the longest speech yet delivered in Committee & they all tell me the best. ... There is no doubt whatever that [S.T.] Evans & I have taken a decided step forward in the estimation of the House'. As a result of their efforts an important new provision has been inserted in the Bill. The Bill is to pass its third reading the following day.

Written at House of Commons. Has spent £125 on furniture: 'The girls helped each other to increase my bill. I could have managed Maggie pretty well but when she was reinforced by Mair I surrendered at discretion or rather compromised'. Hopes that Will Jones has 'sufficient experience & smartness' to manage the office. Enjoyed William George's verses.
