Church appointments, consistory court papers, faculties, etc.,

Papers deriving from church administration both at diocesan level, mainly within the dioceses of Bangor and St Asaph, and at a local level within individual parishes. The files comprise ordinations and presentations to benefices, 1547-1773; consistory court papers, 1571-167[?]; report of a commission to investigate the misappropriation of charity money by the Dean and Chancellor of Bangor, 1623; miscellaneous church administration papers, [post-1630]-[c. 1671], 1902; faculties in Denbighshire churches, 1739-1769; Rhosymedre parish correspondence, 1861-1895; and appointments of organists at Ruabon, 1872-1884.

Llangedwyn collection

The Llangedwyn collection comprises property in p. Llangedwyn, co. Denb., p. Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, cos Mont. and Denb., and in p's Pennant, Hirnant, Llanwddyn, Llangynog, Llanfyllin, Meifod, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, Llanfechain and Llandrinio, co. Mont. Collectors: Samuel Lovatt, 1809-1837, David Jones, 1838 and 1839-1857 (part of the estate only), John Croxon, 1839-1851 (part of the estate only), Nathan Burlinson, 1852-1860 (part of the estate only), Joseph Owen Jones, 1857-1861 (part of the estate only). From R94 (1839) onwards, details regarding this collection will be found in two different places in each volume: the first number given contains that part of the estate situated in co. Denb., and the second number contains that part of the estate situated in co. Mont. After R116/2e (1861), property in p's Llangedwyn, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Pennant, Hirnant, Llanwddyn, Llanfyllin, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, will be found in one or more of the following rentals, before they appear together once again in the collection entitled Farm and Cottage Rents: R116/3d and R117/2c (being settled estates in cos Denb. and Mont.), and R116/3a and R117/2a (being estates of which Sir Watkin Williams Wynn is seised in fee simple). Maenan lordship

The Maenan lordship collection comprises property in p's Eglwysfach, Llansanffraid Glan Conwy, Llangernyw, and Llysfaen (ecclesiastical parish in Llandrillo-yn-Rhos), cos Denb. & Caern. With regard to the dates in this series, R64/12 (1809) would contain a rental for the year 1809, rather than a rental collected at Lady Day 1809. This pattern has been followed throughout this collection, since some of the rents are collected at Lady Day, others at Michaelmas, while the dates of others are not given. Collectors: William Williams, 1809-1823, John Maughan, 1824-1838, and Thomas Turnor, 1839-1857.

Indexes to vouchers

From 1889 onwards, the vouchers are bound according to the estate, i.e. Home, Wynnstay, Glan-llyn, Llanbryn-mair, Llangedwyn, Llanforda, Llwydiarth. The indexes to vouchers after 1889 are likewise bound according to the estate. Thus, for example, VIF1 (1890) is an index to the Llanforda Estate Vouchers V54 (1890). Each index is arranged alphabetically according to the name on the voucher to whom payment is made, together with the number of the page on which the voucher is to be found in the appropriate bound volume of vouchers.
