Rentals: first series

Rentals of the co. Brec. estate, some of which, however, only relate to a portion of the estate. There are substantial gaps in this series which can, to some extent be supplemented by consulting the rentals in BM1.

Rents of the port of Chepstow,

Rents of river dues paid by ships for using the river Wye, 1723-1733 and 1788, giving the dates of payment, name and port of each ship, name of each master and the amount of money due. Arranged chronologically, by quarter. BMA5/19 gives rents for four quarters and BMA5/20 for seven quarters. A rental for 1789 is at BMM1/1.

Draft rentals,

These rentals are not as complete as the main series and have not been audited. They were probably carried from property to property by the steward as many notes, receipts, blank receipts and a few letters are kept in the covers of some of the volumes. The borough and manor of Crickhowell are listed in separate volumes from the rentals of the manor Tretwr and Cwm-du until 1827 when they combine. From 1827 onwards Cwm-du manor and its rents are not recorded at all.

Account books of the steward giving details of receipts, mainly rentals, and of disbursements, including repairs, rates, poor rates, court leets, subscriptions, wages and salaries to labourers, servants, gamekeepers, craftsmen, etc.
