Rentals

The rentals are arranged into four series: first series, c.1550-1740; main series, 1760-1933; draft rentals, 1818-1874, and tithe rentals, 1818. Rentals for 1662-1665 and 1742-1759 are with the rentals of the Badminton Welsh estate at BM1. Some of the rentals were removed from Badminton Group II; previous reference numbers are given where appropriate.

Bailiffs' accounts,

Accounts of the bailiffs of various co. Mon. man's arranged by bailiff. The accounts include details of the bailiff's 'charge', that is, what monies he should have received from the tenants including unpaid arrears (some of which are described as 'very old' or 'desperate'), and his 'discharge', that is, his disbursements on behalf of the estate, including repairs, taxes and allowances to tenants.

Rent arrears,

Rent arrears in man's Tretwr and Crickhowell in p's Crickhowell, Llangattock, Llanelli, Llanbedr [Ystrad Yw], Llangenny, Patrishow and Cwm-du.

Registers of leases,

Registers Of Leases giving dates of grants of leases, terms of leases, names of lessees and of lives of lease, annual rent, amount of fines and heriots, and descriptions of the premises.

Miscellaneous documents

Arranged into Breconshire, 1429-1788, Carmarthenshire, [temp. Eliz. I]-[c.1750], Gloucestershire, 1568-1760, and miscellaneous counties, 1585-1708.

Accounts of repairs,

Account books containing details and costs of repairs undertaken on farm buidings, houses, cottages, etc. Arranged into accounts relating to the manor of Chepstow, and to the Monmouthshire estate.

Collector's accounts,

Accounts of Silvanus Bevan, collector of rents of the co. Glam. estate in lp Gower, comprising man's Gower Anglica and Gower Wallica, Swansea, Lougher, Trewyddfa, [p. Swansea], Pennard, [p. Pennard], Lunnon, [p. Ilston], Kittle, [p's Pennard/ilston], and in p's. Bishopstown and Oystermouth, man. Kilvey, [p. Llansamlet]. All were removed from Badminton Group II. Previous reference numbers are given below. BGD1/1, 3 include details of the bailiff's 'charge', that is, what monies he should have received from the tenants including unpaid arrears and his 'discharge', that is, his disbursements on behalf of the estate, including repairs, taxes and allowances to tenants; BGD1/2, 5-6 are more detailed accounts of repairs, taxes and salaries allowed; BGD1/4 is an observation on discharges and allowances; and BGD 1/8 is an abstract of an account. Most of these accounts were removed from Badminton (Group 2); previous reference numbers are given below.

Mineral accounts,

Account of receipts from rents of farms, coal mines and quarries in Clydach and Rumney. For the main mineral accounts see BGA4.

Registers of counterpart leases,

Uniformly bound, outsize volumes, containing dates of grants of leases, terms of leases, names of lessees and of lives of lease, annual rent, amount of fines and heriots, descriptions of the premises and details of subsequent licences granted to assign or to sub-let which were endorsed on the leases. All the volumes are indexed by assignees and lessees. Up to 1871 three copies of the register was made: one for the Badminton estate office, one for the co. Glam. estate office in Swansea, and one for the Prudential Assurance Co. Ltd, though for the years 1871-1889 only the Prudential Assurance co.'s copy has survived. From 1871 the co. Glam. estate office's copy was dispensed with.

Audit rolls

Arranged into Glamorgan, Breconshire, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire, 1477-1641, Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, 1434-1476, and miscellaneous counties, 1393-1633. Note. The original schedule lists the accounts in columns headed (county), place, accounting officer, and office.

Accounts including accounts of rents received on audit days, cash accounts, accounts of steward with the estate, accounts relating to coal supplied to the furnaces at Clydach, Beaufort and Rumney, contingency bills of steward's expenses, together with instructions for leases to be granted, lists of leases granted and fees to the steward for executing the same, and related correspondence.
