Writing from Zurich, he makes observation on his tour of Switzerland, making references to the contemporary political scene in Europe with gossip about the European aristocracy, in particular about the amours of Madame de Raventlaw, who lived at Ratisbon; he was very much impressed with the philosopher Lavater, who lived in Switzerland; he regrets that people in England should concern themselves with reform at this time.
