Letters from Francis T. Havergal, 1884, to Thomas Powel concerning copies of the Hereford 'Mappa Mundi'.

Leaves from five English manuscripts: two consecutive leaves from the sanctorale of a large missal including the proper for St Credan, presumably from Evesham Abbey, [15 cent.] (ff. 1-2); a leaf from a gradual containing alleluiatic verses and tract for the feast of an apostle, [14 cent.] (f. 3); a leaf from a collection of Latin motets, [13/14 cent.] (f. 4); two conjugate leaves from the temporale of a noted missal, [14 cent.] (ff. 5-6); and a fragment of a leaf from a large antiphonal, [14/15 cent.].

A volume containing a detailed summary by Samuel Roberts of sermons heard, 13 February - 19 July 1848, at Pall Mall and other Welsh Calvinistic Methodist chapels in Liverpool (pp. 1-115) and, 14-30 July 1848, in counties Anglesey and Caernarfon (pp. 115-143), with an index of preachers' names (pp. 144-147). The preachers include the Reverends Lewis Edwards, Bala, John Hughes and Henry Rees, Liverpool, and John Jones, Tal-y-sarn. Also included are details of Sunday School attendances and the lengths of the services.

One of two volumes containing lists of lands and manors mentioned in thirteen of the books of liveries preserved among the miscellaneous books of the Court of Wards and Liveries. The places have been entered under the names of English counties, this first volume containing names taken from volumes 1-8. According to a note, 1719, by C. Grymes on the inside cover the index was compiled by one Phillips.

The printers' copy (typescript, with manuscript emendations) of D[avid] E[ rwyd] Jenkins (ed.): Religious Societies (Dr. Woodward's 'Account') . . . ( Liverpool, 1935), in which sections of Josiah Woodward: An Account of the Religious Societies in the City of London, &c., and of their Endeavours for Reformation of Manners (4th ed., enlarged, London, 1712), were reprinted, with a historical introduction by D. E. Jenkins, dealing more specifically with Wales.

The file comprises a MS list of Welsh chapels in London, arranged by denomination; a similar list with the addition of names and addresses of persons who will look after posting bills; a MS list of names and addresses of parties concerned with Welsh chapels in London; a letter from John Owens to C. W. Jones concering the lists, 1876; a similar letter from C. W. Jones to John Owens, 1880; and two notes on Welsh chapels

Notes, extracts, etc., by E. R. Horsfall Turner from various printed sources including [A. H.] Dodd: The Industrial Revolution in North Wales [( Cardiff, 1933)]; [Edward] Hamer [:A Brief Account of the] Chartist Outbreak [at Llanidloes in the year 1839 (Llanidloes, 1867)]; [J. L. and B.] Hammond: The Age of the Chartists, 1832-54 [(London, 1930)]; History of the Chartists and the Bloodless Wars of Montgomeryshire (Welshpool, N.D.); various numbers of the Shrewsbury Chronicle and Salopian journal for the year 1839, etc. The material was probably collected in the course of research work on Chartism in co. Montgomery.

A breviary, use of Sarum, from Lanteglos by Fowey, Cornwall, mid 15 cent. Comprises temporale (ff. 1-182), dedication of a church (ff. 182-8 verso), benedictions (f. 189 recto-verso), calendar (ff. 190-5 verso), psalter (ff. 197-281 verso, four leaves wanting after f. 230 and two after f. 296, with litany on ff. 275-8 verso), commune (ff. 282-321 verso), sanctorale (ff. 322-451 verso). On ff. 451 verso-75, added by three hands, are offices for nova festa including Saints David, Chad, John of Beverley and Winifred, the Visitation, St Osmund, and the Transfiguration; the first four are included in the calendar by the primary hand, the last three, together with the feast of the Name of Jesus, are added. Also added to the calendar by hands of second half 15 cent. are Saints Bridget, Patrick, Beuno and 'Willeus' (patron saint of Lanteglos by Fowey) and the dedication of the church of Lanteglos. Willeus is also added to the litany on f. 275 verso. Plain red and blue initials.

The office of the dead, substantially as in F. Procter & C. Wordsworth, Breviarum ad usum insignis ecclesiae Sarum (Cambridge, 1879-1886), II, 271-82 (ff. 1-50, one leaf wanting before f. 1 and one after f. 46); antiphons, responses and versicles are all noted for music; written in textura, rubrics and staves in red, plain red initials, perhaps mid 15 cent. Added prayers in cursive hands on f. 50v. Quire 8 (ff. 51-8) is from an earlier manuscript, perhaps first half 15 cent., written in textura with blue initials and red penwork; it begins and ends abruptly, containing part of the litany followed by psalm 118. Quire 9 (ff. 59-63), in a cursive hand, on paper, second half 15 cent., concludes psalm 118 and has collects and a post-communion from masses for the dead (including that for a bishop) and part of the commendation of souls.

A manuscript armorial of English and Welsh families entitled The nomenclature or Heralds Alphabett of Surnames, L-Z (vol. II), with additional notes by Peter Le Neve (1661-1729), Norroy King at Arms. Painted coats-of-arms have been affixed to the manuscript at relevant points throughout the work.

Material relating to Shropshire castles and fortifications collected by Edward Edwards, bookseller, Shrewsbury, with many engravings, plans, etc.

A volume containing 'Rousseau's Dream' by J. B. Cramer; Swiss airs and a Swiss dance; a quadrille; waltzes by Carl Maria von Weber, Balduci [sic, for Boildieu?], Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johan Nepomuka Hummel, etc.; a German drinking song; Gaelic, Tyrolese (one by Joseph Kuffner), Irish, French, Danish and German airs; marches; a pastorale by Franҫois Adrien Boildieu; a harp air; gallopades; a polonaise; Hungarian melody; preludes for the harp by P. M. Meyer ('Not to be copied'); hymn-tunes (to words by Thomas Kelly, William Cowper, John Newton, Joseph Addison, Reginald Heber, etc.); Scotch airs (to words by Miss --- Drinkwater); chants by Sir J. This album contains 72 b&w photographs relating to plots and experiments into grass and clover cultivation and related topics.Captions on the reverse of many of the photographs indicate they were taken in Drownboy field, Jealott's Hill, Berkshire.

An account book of David Jameson, maltster, of Bailey Street, Oswestry, 1800-1825, to which have been added a single entry for 1844 and accounts of goods (tea, coffee, sugar, etc.) received in 1871. The volume was subsequently used as an album for cuttings from Bye-Gones.

An incomplete copy of Nicholas Culpeper: The English Physician Enlarged ... (edition unknown), with additional manuscript notes on herbs by William Bona, Llanpumpsaint, who has also indicated every herb known to him and grown in his garden. Thomas Evans (Tomos Glyn Cothi) (1764-1833) has entered what appears to be a list of money gifts at a so-called bidding in Carmarthenshire, possibly on the occasion of his own marriage.

A pocket book containing sermon notes in Welsh ? by, and in the hand of, [the Reverend] Lewis Williams, Wesleyan minister, London, whose name, with the date 27 September 1842, appears on a fly-leaf at the beginning of the volume. The last page bears the date 1 July 1846. Miscellaneous memoranda in English have been inserted on a few pages.
