History
The British Road to Socialism was the programme of the Communist Party Great Britain. The first edition was published in 1951, and adopted by the Communist Party Congress in 1952. Other editions were published in 1958, 1968 and 1977. Bert Pearce was a member of the British Road to Socialism Commission which was set up to redraft the 1977 edition in 1988-1989, based on a pre-discussion statement called 'Facing up to the Future'. The result of the Commission was the drafting of Manifesto For New Times, a new strategy for the 1990s.
