History

This magazine was the product of the wishes of the first Conference 'The Way Ahead' in 1968, to produce something better than the previous 'Bulletins'. Therefore the first issue of Headway (a rehash of the conference title 'The Way Ahead') appeared in July 1969, and was a monthly free magazine sent to every house in Aberfan and Merthyr Vale. It was produced in Tŷ Toronto (at that time a caravan), but under the auspices of the District Group which was set up to unite the communities of Aberfan and Merthyr Vale and coordinate the developments to rebuild those communities after the disaster. The Press was founded in 1971 and offered its services to the community in printing anything from concert programmes to funeral leaflets. The magazine itself continued until 1995.
