History
Gwilym Lloyd-George, first viscount Tenby (1894-1967) was the fourth child of David and Margaret Lloyd George. He saw active service on the Western Front during the first world war. He served as Liberal (later National Liberal and Conservative) MP for Pembrokeshire, 1922-1924 and 1929-1950, serving effectively as minister of fuel and power under Churchill, 1942-1945. Following his defeat at Pembrokeshire in 1950, he returned to the House of Commons as Conservative MP for Newcastle-upon-Tyne North in 1951, and served as minister of food, 1951-1954, and home secretary and (the largely symbolic) minister for Welsh affairs, 1954-1957. He entered the House of Lords as viscount Tenby in 1957.
