The composer Sir Michael Kemp Tippett was trained at the Royal College of Music in London and rose to prominence during and immediately after the Second World War. Among his best-known works are the oratorio A Child of Our Time, the orchestral Fantasia Concertante on a Theme of Corelli and the opera The Midsummer Marriage (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Tippett).

Anglo-Welsh poet and writer and Anglican priest Ronald Stuart (R. S.) Thomas was born in Cardiff and did not begin to learn Welsh until age thirty. Nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996, Thomas is considered to have been one of the major English language poets of the twentieth century (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._S._Thomas).
