History

The Foley family were descended from a John Foley, architect to the bishops of St Davids and constable of Llawhaden castle in the 14th century. Richard Foley is mentioned in regard to Ridgeway in 1711. John Foley built a new house there which was completed in 1741. In 1811 the estate was owned by John Herbert Foley who married Emily Ann Chambers of Totteridge, Hertfordshire, in 1794. By 1871 Ridgeway was the seat of a R. P. Davies.
