Six scrapbooks of newspaper cuttings and manuscript notes compiled by the Reverend John Evans, Liverpool, approximately during the period 1884-1910. They contain accounts of religious and public meetings in Liverpool and elsewhere (e.g. the Liverpool Institute prize distribution, 1884, the opening of the Liverpool Overhead Railway, 1893); obituaries (e.g. Thomas Rees, D.D., Swansea, 1885, Edward Stephen ('Tanymarian'), 1885, Edward Matthews, Ewenny, 1892, John Hughes, D.D., Caernarvon, 1893, John Evans ('Eglwys Bach'), 1897, Thomas Gee, Denbigh, 1898, Dr. Joseph Parry, 1903, etc.); sermons and addresses (e.g. by Principal Thomas Charles Edwards, John Phillips, Bangor, Owen Evans, D.D., London, H. Elvet Lewis ('Elfed'), etc.); poetry, generlaly in the form of 'in memoriam' verses; portraits; rules of Rose Place Day School, Liverpool, established in 1844; a table of events in the history of Tabernacle Congregational Church, Liverpool, from 1800 to 1907; a history of Chatham Street Calvinistic Methodist Church, Liverpool, from 1839 to 1910; Brief Sketch of the past & present of Denbigh Castle (n.d.), etc. The volumes are indexed.

A scrap-book compiled by Laura Pughe (née Parry, 'Meillionen Gwynedd', 1835-1936), Helygog, Brithdir, co. Merioneth, containing poetry, 1856-1936, addressed to herself, her husband Robert Pughe (d. 1882), and their family, including poetry by Morris Davies ('Meurig Ebrill'), Howell Elvet Lewis ('Elfed') and John Owen Williams ('Pedrog'), together with press cuttings and other related items.

A collection of over 200 books and pamphlets from the library of the donor's husband, the late Rev J. Seymour Rees, Seven Sisters, most of these being typescript volumes (NLW MSS 18628-707). The collection consists of some original work by J. Seymour Rees and his father, John Rees, such as poetry, short stories, essays, biographies, and guide books, much of which was submitted for competition at various national and local eisteddfodau, and volumes of collected material on various topics, including essays, articles and other material on such eminent Welshmen as W. Llewelyn Williams, Daniel Silvan Evans, Sir John Morris Jones, and Rev William Edwards, Groeswen, and on Welsh hymnology, and collections of poetry by D. Emrys James ('Dewi Emrys'), I. D. Hooson, R. Williams Parry, and T. J. Thomas ('Sarnicol'), of prose by 'Sarnicol', W. Llewelyn Williams, O. M. Edwards, and W. J. Gruffydd, and of hymns by H. Elvet Lewis ('Elfed'), J. D. Vernon Lewis, J. R. Davies, Pentyrch, and others, and selections of prose and verse compiled for competition at various national eisteddfodau. In addition to the collection of Elfed's Welsh and English hymns, there are twelve volumes containing some of his prose and verse and material on his life and work. There are also indexes to Y Beirniad, Y Geninen, and Y Geiriadur Bywgraphyddol; typescript copies and cuttings, from periodicals and newspapers, of articles and essays by various persons, and by 'Sarnicol' and J. Seymour Rees in particular; typescript transcripts of several printed books, in particular of collections of hymns published in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; and scrapbooks of newspaper cuttings relating to D. Lloyd George, Dylan Thomas, 'Dewi Emrys', W. Llewelyn Williams, Sir John Morris Jones, 'Elfed', Rev John Evans, Brecon, Rev Jubilee Young, and others. The collection also contains letters to J. Seymour Rees and Mrs. Seymour Rees and a small group of other correspondence. The largest donation of printed books received during the current year was that which the Library was invited to select from the very extensive library of Rev J. Seymour Rees (Dept of Printed Books). It numbered several hundreds of volumes primarily of literary, historical, and theological interest, all in very good condition, and many having been bound by Mr. Rees himself. Additional material from the library of the donor's husband, the late Rev J. Seymour Rees, Seven Sisters. It includes typescript collections of 'Cyfansoddiadau sydd yn fy modloni i' and 'A short anthology of the world's greatest Christian prayers' (NLW MS 19384B); three scrapbooks of typescripts and newspaper cuttings (NLW MSS 19385A, 19386B, 19387C); a typescript copy of 'Casgliad o gyfarwyddiadau i wneuthur hen fwydydd nodweddiadol Gymraeg' by Miss Mati Thomas ('Mati'r Ddôl'), Nanternis, New Quay (awarded the prize at the Treorchy National Eisteddfod, 1928) (NLW MS 19383B); Evan Thomas: Galareb S. Griffiths o Horeb (Castellnewydd-Emlyn, 1960), and J. Lloyd Williams: Byd Natur (Caerdydd, 1924) (Dept of Printed Books). A holograph letter of David Jones (1856-1937), Aberdare, afterwards Independent minister at New Quay, co. Cardigan, and at Scranton, Pa., U.S.A. (NLW MS 18866E, No 246C); and a printed postcard to the donor from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, [March 1965], acknowledging a message of sympathy and good wishes (NLW MS 16726A).

A return of their six favourite Welsh books in answer to a questionnaire, issued by Howell Elvet Lewis, April 1892, the respondents including Anna Walter Thomas ('Morfudd Eryri'), Sarah Jane Rees ('Cranogwen'), Thomas Edward Ellis, John Rhys, Daniel Owen, John Parry, Llanarmon, John Gwenogvryn Evans, Owen Morgan Edwards, Michael D. Jones, David Howell ('Llawdden'), Evan Herber Evans, Lewis Probert, John Davies ('Gwyneddon'), John Edward Lloyd, J. J. Roberts ('Iolo Caernarfon'), John Ceulanydd Williams, Daniel Lleufer Thomas, Charles Ashton, John Owen Williams ('Pedrog'), Owen Davies, Caernarfon, John Morris-Jones, Evan Rees ('Dyfed'), T. C. Evans ('Cadrawd'), Thomas Levi, J. Bowen-Jones, David Adams, E. Gurnos Jones, Watkin Hezekiah Williams ('Watcyn Wyn'), H. Cernyw Williams, D. Emlyn Evans, W. T. Rees ('Alaw Ddu'), D. Rowlands ('Dewi Môn'), Ellis Roberts ('Elis Wyn o Wyrfai'), and 'T.C.U.' [Rees Jenkin Jones], Aberdare, and letters declining to state their preferences from Thomas Charles Edwards, D. Silvan Evans, and others. The lists were printed in Cyfaill yr Aelwyd, 1892, pp. 160-4, 190-4.

A scrapbook, compiled by J. W. Jones, Blaenau Ffestiniog, and unbound leaves containing holographs, transcripts, and press cuttings of poetry in free and strict metres, 1893-1903 and 1918?, by William (Gwilym) Morgan, quarryman, of Blaenau Ffestiniog, together with adjudications by [Sir] J[ohn] Morris Jones (press cuttings), [Howell Elvet Lewis] ('Elfed') (transcript), etc. MS. 11064 also contains testimonials, 1901, to William Morgan and Mrs Morgan from Robert Roberts, J. P., surgeon, Blaenau Ffestiniog, the Reverend W[illiam] P[ari] Hughes, Dolgellau, and Wm. Davies, Junior, Managing Partner, The Diphwys Casson Slate Quarries Company, Blaenau Ffestiniog, the first (and presumably the other two) in support of their candidature for the posts of master and matron of Pwllheli Workhouse; and a holograph letter, 1936, from [Humphrey Jones] ('Bryfdir'), Rhiwbryfdir, to [J. W. Jones], enclosing copies of 'in memoriam' verses to Gwilym Morgan. Included in MS. 11065 is a holograph letter, 1899, from Robert Roberts, Blaenau Ffestiniog, to Gwilym Morgan, with observations on 'englynion' in English by the recipient.

An autograph album, 1879-1918, thought to belong to 'Ap Ieuan', possibly Samuel Evans, a member of Tabernacl Welsh Congregational church, Shrewsbury, containing entries in Welsh, English, Chinese and other eastern and African languages, mainly by Congregationalist ministers and missionaries, including Ben Davies, Pant-teg, T. Eynon Davies, David Picton Jones, J. R. Kilsby Jones and H. Elvet Lewis ('Elfed'); together with pasted-in photographs. Papers found loose inside have been tipped in at the end of the volume (ff. 27-32).

A bound illuminated address ('Souvenir') presented to the Reverend H. Elvet Lewis ('Elfed'), Congregational minister, on his removal from Hull, May 1891.
