The first group consists of papers of Emyr Humphreys, 1908-1993, comprising mainly correspondence, 1930-1993, including personal correspondence, 1939-1993, correspondence between parties other than Emyr Humphreys, 1930-1993, and correspondence relating directly to his work, 1942-1994, and his interests, such as the arts and politics, including papers relating to Plaid Cymru and Gymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, 1956-1992; volumes, published and unpublished, [1946]x1991; short stories, in manuscript and typescript form, together with some poems and scripts and unidentified prose, 1937x1981; articles, reviews, adjudications and lectures, c. 1949x1993; radio and television scripts, including scripts containing references to Emyr Humphreys, with contributions by him and reviews of his work, 1946xc. 1993; poems, 1936xc. 1993; together with miscellaneous items, which include a file of official publications, circulars, memoranda and related papers (c. 1945-1946) relating to the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in Italy, and Welsh and English newspaper cuttings, 1908-1990.

Papers relating to and created by Margiad Evans (Peggy Eileen Whistler), [1930s]-[1958x1965], comprising material for an unpublished critical biography of Margiad Evans, compiled by W. Arnold Thorpe, [1936x1965], including transcripts by Thorpe of poems, prose and letters by Margiad Evans, scripts of radio broadcasts and extracts of reviews of Margiad Evans's published prose works; correspondence relating to information on Margiad Evans; biographical and related material; Whistler family photographs; notes by W. The archive described here comprises papers formerly known as the Roland Mathias MSS (originally placed on deposit at NLW and converted to a donation in 1994), together with donations, 1993-2003. It includes mostly correspondence, and papers relating to The Anglo-Welsh Review, his literary works, and professional career as a teacher and headmaster. Also included is a group of personal and family papers, together with works by Dora Polk.

Papers of Alun Lewis, 1919-1996, including family correspondence and letters from Robert Graves; autograph and typescript copies of published and unpublished poems; typescript copies of published and unpublished prose; personalia; an unpublished autobiographical novella of college life; memorial tributes to Alun Lewis in poetry form; and notebooks containing poetry and other writings by him.

Records relating to the Anglo-Welsh Review, mainly typescripts of material published in the magazine, 1957-1988, including editor's correspondence files, printer's copies and galley proofs, 1957-1988; and subscription lists, 1957-1975. The archive also includes correspondence and papers relating to the publication's demise and closure, 1981-2000 (November 2021 deposit).

Papers relating to the magazine Planet, including printers' copies for numbers 1-36 of Planet, 1970-1977, including typescripts of articles, artwork and proofs; manuscripts, 1971-1977, submitted to John Tripp as literary editor, with related correspondence; correspondence, 1970-1975, to the editors, Ned Thomas and Sarah Erskine; letters, 1972-1979, received by John Tripp in his capacity as literary editor; and records of subscriptions, 1971-1974. Literary and personal papers of Rhys Davies, 1901-1979, comprising manuscript drafts and typescript copies, mainly of short stories and plays, together with drafts and a manuscript text of his last novel Ram with Red Horns (Bridgend, 1996), set in south Wales. Also included are letters to and from Rhys Davies, mostly 1960s and 1970s, and papers relating to his friend, the novelist Anna Kavan, including a short draft of a work of fiction in her hand. The manuscripts include autograph and typescript drafts of the short story 'The Walled City', [?1950s], the novels Tomorrow to Fresh Woods (1941), Girl Waiting in the Shade (1960), [?late 1950s], and Nobody Answered the Bell (1971), stories collected in The Chosen One (1967), the autobiographical volume Print of a Hare's Foot (1969), and the articles 'The God on the Oven Door', 1963, and 'Anna Kavan', 1971.

Holograph manuscripts and (mostly) typescripts, corrected, of some of the published and unpublished literary works, including novels entitled 'Benny Boy', 'Thursday to Saturday', Choral Symphony (London, 1955), 'Requiem for Rags', 'The Champion's Wife, 'The Methuselahs', Come, Night; End, Day, Rhondda Roundabout, 'Shadow Show' and The Man David (London, 1944); comedies, musical plays, and dramatisations of novels, autobiographies, radio scripts, articles and reviews, 1938-1967, including 'The Leek in the Broth'; diaries, 1938-1962; notebooks on William Abraham ('Mabon'); cuttings from Merthyr Express of the 'Saran Stories'; recorded readings from the B.B.C, 1941-1964; and typescript final draft of 'A Burnt Offering' and manuscript notes on Dr William Price.

The fonds comprises the literary and personal papers of Glyn Jones, 1814-1995 (with gaps), including manuscript and typescript drafts of poetry and prose works by him, related correspondence and press cuttings, radio scripts, talks and readings and adjudications. Also included are notes and articles pertaining to Glyn Jones, general correspondence and notebooks; various papers relating to members of his family; and works by other writers.

Proofs of the first edition of Raymond Garlick, An Introduction to Anglo-Welsh Literature (Cardiff: University of Wales Press, 1970), used by the author as copy for the second edition, published 1972.
Each folio consists of two pages printed side-by-side, comprising proofs of the title page and pp. 1-97 (ff. 4-52). These are preceded by a new typescript prologue, dated May 1972 (ff. 1-3) and followed by an author’s note (pasted in on f. 53). Minor corrections and emendations have been supplied by the author in red and black ink; more substantial alterations and additions to the text have been supplied in typescript as paste overs or as paper flaps attached to page margins (ff. 8, 10-11, 13, 28-30, 32, 34, 39, 42, 50).

Literary manuscripts of David Jones, with manuscript drafts of In Parenthesis: Seinnyessit e gledyf ym penn mameu; The Anathemata: Fragments of an attempted writing; Epoch and Artist: Selected writings by David Jones; The Sleeping Lord and other fragments; The Dying Gaul and other writings, and The Roman Quarry and other sequences. There is a substantial body of letters to David Jones from friends, editors and others, 1910-1976; draft letters from David Jones to friends, newspaper editors and others, 1929-1982; and letters by David Jones, 1919-1985, published in Dai Greatcoat: A self-portrait of David Jones in his letters. There are some examples of David Jones' art, and material relating to David Jones as an artist, as well as personal documents, financial papers, family papers, photographs, and accumulated research material.

Manuscripts and typescripts of works by John Cledwyn Hughes, [1928]-[1978], including typescript copies, printer's copies, proofs and manuscript holographs, with holograph amendments and additions of his non-fictional books, including: A Wanderer in North Wales (1949), Poaching down the Dee (1953), The Northern Marches (1953), West with the Tinkers. A journey through Wales with vagrants (1954), The House in the Cornfield (1956), Royal Wales (with a revised and curtailed version called History of Wales) (1957), Leonard Cheshire, V.C. (1959), Making an Orchard (1959), Ponies for Children (1960), Portrait of Snowdonia (1967), and The Batsford Colour Book of Wales (1975); his published novels including: The Inn Closes for Christmas (1947), The Different Drummer (1947), The Civil Strangers (1949), After the Holiday (1950) and Gold and the Moonspray (1953); children's stories; short stories; and his unpublished works; together with copies, including a manuscript holograph, of The Golden Mountain, serialized in Woman's Journal; correspondence with publishers, his agent and literary figures, 1938-1968; and certificates awarded to Cledwyn Hughes, 1928-1934. The 2011 donation comprises additional drafts of works, volumes of press cuttings, and correspondence.

Papers of, and relating to, Dylan Thomas, [1925x2013], collected and collated by Jeff Towns, including scripts, correspondence, programmes and papers relating to the publication of Under Milk Wood, and radio, stage, film and audio productions of the play, 1953-2005; research papers and works relating to Dylan Thomas, 1937-2006; letters by Dylan Thomas, and the letters and papers of his wife Caitlin, their three children and his parents, 1935-2007; autograph prose works, [1925x1953], and personal papers, [1929]-1960; poetry, [1928x2010], mostly comprising autograph drafts; unpublished autograph letters by Dylan Thomas, [1926]-1995; and a small group of material, 1939-[2013], including four autograph letters, 1939, from the author, relating to The map of love.

Papers of Rose Mabel Lewis, 1873-1917, comprising journals, 1874-1912, including a journal containing an account of her honeymoon journey to the USA and Canada, together with a short story, 'The Shepherd Lord', notes on painting, knitting patterns and cookery recipes and other journals containing details of journeys to Jamaica, London and France, Las Palmas and Brittany; literary manuscripts, including notebooks with poetry and prose drafts, 1873-[c. 1914]; and printed material, 1891, 1917.

Papers of A. G. Prys-Jones and, to a much lesser extent, of his friend Don Dale-Jones. A. G. Prys-Jones's papers include letters from him, mainly to Don Dale-Jones, 1967-1987; letters to him from various literary figures, 1934-1987; poetry, including drafts for his published collections, [c. 1923]-[c. 1987], unpublished collections, [c. 1924]-[c. 1968], other published and unpublished poems, 1913-1969, and some poetry notebooks, [c. 1984]; prose works, including short stories, [c. 1930s]-1975, and plays, 1932-1972, many of which were either published, performed or broadcast; drafts and press cuttings of articles and reviews published in newspapers, particularly the Western Mail, 1929-1968, as well as unpublished articles, [c. 1947]-[1960s]; press cuttings of articles about and reviews of Prys-Jones' work, 1923-1987; typescript copies and drafts of The Story of Carmarthenshire and other works, 1941-1972; papers relating to Welsh history, including education in Wales and Llandovery College, 1908-1970; drafts and typescripts of talks, lectures and speeches, including radio scripts, 1937-1958; poetry, prose and lectures by other authors, 1924-1987; and other personal papers and ephemera, 1933-1986. They reflect the voluntary arrangement that existed between 1959 and 1977, the expansion of activities which followed the formation of the English Language Section in 1968 and the contribution made by paid staff in the period after the award of a Welsh Arts Council Grant in 1977. The papers of the Welsh Language Section reflect the whole activities of the Academi up to the formation of the English Language Section. From then on, the papers are split into those of the Central Administration, the Welsh Language Section and the English Language Section. The collection includes general correspondence, administrative papers such as committee minutes, membership details and material relating to various publications, events and activities. Thirteen large boxes of records were received July 2013 and a further 2 large boxes in October 2013. These groups remains uncatalogued.
