Literary and personal papers of Rhys Davies, 1901-1979, comprising manuscript drafts and typescript copies, mainly of short stories and plays, together with drafts and a manuscript text of his last novel Ram with Red Horns (Bridgend, 1996), set in south Wales. Also included are letters to and from Rhys Davies, mostly 1960s and 1970s, and papers relating to his friend, the novelist Anna Kavan, including a short draft of a work of fiction in her hand. The manuscripts include autograph and typescript drafts of the short story 'The Walled City', [?1950s], the novels Tomorrow to Fresh Woods (1941), Girl Waiting in the Shade (1960), [?late 1950s], and Nobody Answered the Bell (1971), stories collected in The Chosen One (1967), the autobiographical volume Print of a Hare's Foot (1969), and the articles 'The God on the Oven Door', 1963, and 'Anna Kavan', 1971.

Proofs of the first edition of Raymond Garlick, An Introduction to Anglo-Welsh Literature (Cardiff: University of Wales Press, 1970), used by the author as copy for the second edition, published 1972.
Each folio consists of two pages printed side-by-side, comprising proofs of the title page and pp. 1-97 (ff. 4-52). These are preceded by a new typescript prologue, dated May 1972 (ff. 1-3) and followed by an author’s note (pasted in on f. 53). Minor corrections and emendations have been supplied by the author in red and black ink; more substantial alterations and additions to the text have been supplied in typescript as paste overs or as paper flaps attached to page margins (ff. 8, 10-11, 13, 28-30, 32, 34, 39, 42, 50).

They reflect the voluntary arrangement that existed between 1959 and 1977, the expansion of activities which followed the formation of the English Language Section in 1968 and the contribution made by paid staff in the period after the award of a Welsh Arts Council Grant in 1977. The papers of the Welsh Language Section reflect the whole activities of the Academi up to the formation of the English Language Section. From then on, the papers are split into those of the Central Administration, the Welsh Language Section and the English Language Section. The collection includes general correspondence, administrative papers such as committee minutes, membership details and material relating to various publications, events and activities. Thirteen large boxes of records were received July 2013 and a further 2 large boxes in October 2013. These groups remains uncatalogued.
