'The Dream of Private Clitus' first appeared in Art and Literature, No. 1 in March 1964, and was reprinted in the David Jones Special Issue of Agenda, Vol. 5, Nos. 1-3 (Spring-Summer, 1967). 'The Dream of Private Clitus' was broadcast by the BBC in August 1961. David Jones has dated the poem on page 23 of Sleeping Lord, 'c. 1960, but based, in part, on a longer work begun c. 1940'.
