Biographical history
In 1661 William Morgan (d. 1680) of Tredegar married as his first wife Blanche daughter of William Morgan of Dderw in Breconshire, by which marriage that estate came to the Morgan family of Tredegar. A memorandum by Octavius Morgan dated 1886, states 'Judge Morgan of Therrow [Dderw] was originally of Ystradvelty. He acquired Therrow, a small house, [ ] in 1630, which date was carved on the frieze over the chimney piece in the parlour ... The family always [would?] pass the month of September there til the year 1817, when the house in the town [Brecon Mansion House?] was purchased for the convenience of the great election, & it was never afterwards used as a dwelling house for the family, & became simply a farm house ...'
