S/Sgt Idwal Davies (224573) (1915-1992), born 26 June 1915, was a native of Rhosllannerchrugog, Denbighshire. He was called up to the Army in March/April 1940. He married Bessie Lloyd in July 1940, before being posted overseas that August. He subsequently served in Egypt and Libya before being captured at Tobruk in the summer of 1942. He was initially incarcerated in Italy, including a period hospitalised at Laterina. In about October 1943 he was transferred from Northern Italy to Stalag IVB, Germany, where he was a member of the Cymric Club and contributed the only Welsh article, ‘Meddyliau’, to Cymro, No. 2, May 1944 (see NLW MS 22424F, f. 3 verso). He died 20 July 1992.
