Five notebooks (and some loose notes) containing notes taken by Philip Weekes while a student at the Mining Department of University College, Cardiff, during the years of World War Two. They include notes on mine ventilation and mining, coal production, dust and disease, roof control, the problems of mechanical coal-mining, cleavage induced by mining, roof movements, machine mining, planning at the coal face, and planning and constructing mine roadways.
