Biographical history
Joseph Joseph, FSA, of Brecon (died 29 November 1890), was a collector of manuscripts and documents. He acquired manuscripts of the antiquarians Theophilus Jones (1759-1812) and William Owen Pughe (1759-1835). His collection was expanded by his grandson, Capt. James Buckley (1869-1924) of Castell Gorfod, St Clears, Carmarthenshire, author of Genealogies of the Carmarthenshire Sheriffs (Carmarthen, 1910-1913, 2 vols).

Content and structure area
Scope and content
Manuscripts and rare books relating mostly to the counties of Brecknockshire and Carmarthenshire, on subjects such as history, topography and especially genealogy, 1604-1859, including a transcript of the Golden Grove Book of pedigrees and other pedigrees, relating mainly to South Wales families; 19th century transcripts and copies of letters, including some from Sir Walter Raleigh, [1624]-[1807]; lists of Carmarthenshire sheriffs and Brecknockshire Lords Lieutenant, 1809-1849; parts of original manuscripts of Theophilus Jones and William Owen Pughe, [1792]-[1805]; notebooks and scrapbooks, 1839; and various annotated printed books; and deeds and other documents, 1588-1911, relating mostly to properties in Brecknockshire (particularly in the parish of Bronllys), with a few relating to Carmarthen and Swansea.
