A volume of popular Welsh poems on religious and scriptural themes written c. 1673-1674 by James Phillipp(es), with additions made a generation later by Phillipp James. The poems belong to the type of verse known in Cardiganshire as 'halsingod'. Linguistic evidence suggests that the authors were natives of East Carmarthenshire.

A volume entitled 'Cerddi Huw ac Edward Morris' containing transcripts by J. H. Davies mainly from NLW Add. MS 9 of 'cerddi', 'carolau', etc. in free metres by Edward Morris ([1607]-89), Perthillwydion, Cerrigydrudion and Huw Morys ('Eos Ceiriog'; 1622-1709), Pontymeibion, Llansilin. At the beginning of the volume is a list of titles, with sources, of printed poems by Edward Morris.

A collection of 'halsingod', largely in the hand of David Rees, whose name appears several times in the manuscript, occasionally dated within the period 1738-53. The following authors are recorded within the texts: P. J. (1662, page 51), George Lewis (1690, page 68), a person from 'Llandissil' (1650, page 75), William Nicholas (page 83), Daniel [Rowland, Llangeitho] (1737, pages 103-4), E. W. (page 117), D. J. (1720, page 169), and 'figer llanarth' (1641, page 199). At the end of the volume are an incomplete transcript of a bond of indemnity to the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the parish of Llandissilio gogo, Cardiganshire in a case of bastardy maintenance, 1745, and entries of the births of Jonathan David, 23 November 1745, and Evan Davies, 6 December 1745.

A manuscript entitled 'Llyfyr Karoleu Johannes Jones', being a collection of carolau and a ballad written in both the early and late hands of John Jones, Gellilyfdy. Most of the carolau are anonymous but there are some attributed to Howel ap Lle'n, Roesier Kyffin, Edmwnt Prys ('archiagon Meirionnydd'), [Richard White] [See T. H. Parry-Williams (gol.) Carolau Richard White (Caerdydd, 1931)], Edwart Konwy ('o Sychtyn yn Tegeingl ap Edward Konwy'), Elis (ap) Kynrig ap Rissiart Lewis ('or Vanachloc redyn'), Sion Lewis ap Sion Wynn ('o Dowynn Meirionnydd'), Tomas Jones, Mr Rys ap Tomas, Wiliam Mathew, Rhobert Llwyd ('o Gaergybi') Syr Wiliam Dai ap Wiliam Dai Nanklyn, Rhobert Vychan and Sion Dai Meirig. At the beginning of the volume there is an index of first lines in the hand of J. H. Davies. Some of the earlier carols in the volume, among them five by Richard White, were copied during the period 1605-10. Pp. 405-7 of the volume are bound in Peniarth MS 173, 43-5).

A late sixteenth century volume containing 'Gorchymun y Sul', 'Gweledigeth Pawl Apostol', 'Stori Owen Varchoc Da', a carol ('y ddav vroder'), 'y kyfri mwiaf all fod' ('hyd a lled achwmpas yddaiar ai thewdwr'), and riddles ('Pwy a fv varw ac ni aned yr ioed, atep, addaf ...').

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', etc. by Hugh Morris, together with a 'cerdd' by Huw Jones, Llangwm, a 'cerdd' by the Reverend Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], anonymous 'englynion, 'carolau' and some financial accounts, 1805 and undated. The volume is in the hand of Huw Jones, Llangwm, with a few later additions by Elizabeth Maurice and by Mary Richards, Darowen. It belonged to Thomas Powel, 1804, and Martha Powel, 1805, and also bears the names of Henry Powel, 1756, John Jones, carpenter, Pentregayr [Oswestry] and Martha Edwards.

An imperfect manuscript of the late seventeenth century in the hand of Huw Morys, with copious additions in a number of early eighteenth century hands. It consists largely of 'cywyddau', 'carolau', 'cerddi' and 'dyrïau' by Huw Morys himself, with a few poems in both strict and free metres by Owen Gwynedd, Humphrey Owen, Simwnt Vychan, William Miltwn [Midleton, Myddelton], Doctor Sion Kent, Roger Kyffin, Sion Sgrufen and John Davies ('of Rhiwlas'), and anonymous poems. The volume is lettered 'Barddoniaeth Huw Morys'.

A collection of poetry transcribed by Dafydd Marpole during the period 1775-80. It includes 'cerddi', 'ymddiddanion', 'penillion', 'carolau', 'dyrïau', 'englynion', etc. by Evan Williams (1774), Rowland Hughes ('or Bala'), John (Sion) Griffydd, Hugh Morris, Roger Jones, R. Evan, Dafydd Marpole, Joseph Marpole (1767), John Marpole, Dafydd Evans ('o Lan Silin'), Morys Robert ('o blwy Maentwrog'), John Cadwaladr, Harri Bynner ('o blwy Llanfyllin'), Owen Gruffydd, Mr Jones ('Ficar Llan bryn Mair'), Arthur Jones, Gryffyd[d] Edward ('o Lanfyllin') and Robin Ragad, and anonymous poems. There are numerous critical and textual observations by the scribe. Pp. 15-89 were transcribed from Cwrtmawr MS 231.

An imperfect composite volume of the second half of the seventeenth century containing 'englynion' mainly in Welsh but with a few in English, among them being 'Dechre Cuffessiad Hugh Llivon Clochydd Llanvfvdd' and stanzas by Gwerfyl fechan, Lewis Penllyn, and John Tvdvr; 'ymma i kalyn y pvm rhinwedd svdd ar y fervaen' ('neu Cas gan Gythravl' in a later hand); 'Carol y Genegwarth Synnwyr, Hil Brutys o droya...' by Will. Philip, 'Y Peniaith galluog ...' by Lewis Penllyn, and other free-metre poems; 'cywyddau' by Doctor Sion Kent, Sion Mowddwy, Sion Tvdvr, Mr Edmwnd Prvs, Sr. Davidd Trefor, Robert Clidro, Robin Ddv, Dafydd Lloyd, Iolo Goch, and Mredydd ab Rhys, and anonymous poems.

An imperfect manuscript of 'cerddi' and 'carolau' of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, probably written for the most part by Jenkin David, Cmarch [sic], David Jones, and Evan David, Glaslwyn. The collection was compiled around the period 1765-6. The majority of the poems are anonymous, but the names of the following authors have been recorded, some in the last lines of the compositions: William Nicholas (pp. 4, 48), Thomas John (p. 16), Sion Havart (p. 41), Evan Evans ('o fydwellty yn Sir Feirionydd', p. 60), Evan Griffith (p. 74), Sion Dafydd Sion (p. 82), John Evan ab Evan, 1746 (p. 91), John David John ('o bant y moch mowr yn Llandisil (1631), p. 109). A mutilated volume written in various late seventeenth and early eighteenth century hands containing 'carolau', a 'cywydd' and 'englynion' by Cadwalader Roberts (1685), Hugh Lewis, Hugh Moris, Rowland Vaughan, Moris Richard, Thomas Lloyd ('Ieanga'), Edward Rowland, Richard Abr[a]ham and Edward Moris, and anonymous poems, together with a copy of an acknowledgment, 1677, of a debt of £3 from Thomas Roberts of Penant [Melangell], Montgomeryshire, gent., to John Hughes of Peniarth, gent. On the fly-leaves at the beginning is an index of first lines of the 'carolau' and 'cywydd' compiled and written by J. H. Davies, and at the end a transcript by J. H. Davies of 'Englynion o fawl i Thomas Jones' by Cadwalad[r] Roberts. The volume is lettered 'Llyfr Cadwaladr Roberts 1676'.

The manuscript is undoubtedly 'Ysgriflyfr Carndochan', which Owen Jones ('Manoethwy') cites as the original from which he made transcripts in Cwrtmawr MSS 400 and 515. An incomplete list of contents appears in Cwrtmawr MS 317, p. 265 in the hand of Canon Robert Williams, Rhydycroesau, and a note on the fly-leaf of the present manuscript explains that Robert Williams obtained the volume from the library of Daniel Silvan Evans. The spine is lettered 'Llyfr Cywyddau'.

A composite volume, written in several hands, containing a list of 'oils, ointments, and plasters, with their uses'; 'Cyngor yr hen Gyrys' [cf. Bbcs ii, 9]; 'Agoriad byr Ar weddi'r Arglwydd' (partly in verse); an imperfect text of 'Chwedlau Odo' ('Dammhegion a scrifenwyd ar femrwn ynghylch y flwyddyn, oedran Crist, 1300'); an account in Welsh of some of the feast days, written after 1660 in an unusual orthography, 'Hynod betheu Iessu Xt. ar ei ddiwedd'; verses entitled 'Ymgomio rhwn [sic] y claf o'r Darfodedigaeth Ai Glwyf' attributed in a later hand to Hugh Moris, and 'Dyriau a wnaed wrth : 139 : psalm Ar Fessur arall'; 'Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol' [cf. Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol (1696), pp. 5-11, 14-34]; Scriptural references; sermon notes (in English); hymn stanzas; and copies of one or two parish certificates and other documents,' c. 1709-10, in which the parishes of Llangynog and Llanllawddog, Carmarthenshire and Cilcennin, Cardiganshire are mentioned. There is some confusion in the pagination here and there: e.g. p. 79 should follow p. 10 and p. 83 should follow p. 76. The end-papers are a folio from a seventeenth century printed book. Inset at the beginning of the volume is a letter, 1924, from D. Lleufer Thomas, Whitchurch, Glamorgan to J. H. [Davies] concerning the manuscript, and a slip of paper with notes in the autograph of J. H. Davies.
