Scope and content
A small group of letters found with other Gogerddan political and election material, addressed to members of the Pryse family who were Members of Parliament for the Cardigan Boroughs, 1739-1855. The recipients are Thomas Pryse, 1739-1742, Pryse Pryse, 1808-1835, and Pryse Loveden, 1849-1855. Several of the letters are concerned with personal support or opposition towards the Pryse candidate, and they reveal the political rivalries of the Cardiganshire gentry families. Other letters discuss the payment of election expenses incurred in the contributing boroughs of Cardigan, Aberystwyth, Newcastle Emlyn and Lampeter, especially during 1852.
