History

The Cardiff Literature Festival was organised annually by the English Language Section of the Academi and was first held in 1986. The festival usually lasted for a week and included a great number of events held during the day and evening. Events for children were also a major part of the festival. In 1991, the Cardiff Literature Festival became part of the Cardiff Festival consortium and its name formally changed to Cardiff Festival: Literature. This title remained until the Cardiff Festival came to an end in 1995. In 1996, the Academi held a 'Cardiff Autumn Literary Season' instead, which spread over the winter months. Despite all these changes, the working title of the project remained the Cardiff Literature Festival. There is no evidence that a festival took place after 1996.
