Scope and content
Papers relating to the vesting of two plots of land as extensions to Buttington cemetery, July 1999 - August 2000. Among other factors, there was archaeological interest in the area as (a) it was near Offa's Dyke, (b) there may have been a Saxon and/or early medieval settlement in the area, (c) there were suggestions there may have been a Mercian camp in the area, and (d) there were suggestions that bones of slaughtered Danes from the battle of Buttington (893) were buried there, and/or the cemetery associated with the medieval church may have been larger than it is today.
