Roedd 'Bryfdir', Humphrey Jones (1867-1947), yn chwarelwr a bardd. Ganwyd ef yng Nghwm Croesor, Meirionnydd, ar 13 Rhagfyr 1867. Ar ôl gadael ysgol yn 12, bu'n chwarelwr ym Mlaenau Ffestiniog lle treuliodd weddill ei fywyd. Dechreuodd gyfansoddi barddoniaeth a chystadlu mewn eisteddfodau pan oedd yn ifanc, gan ymuno â Gorsedd y Beirdd yn 1890 ac ennill dim llai na 64 cadair farddol ac 8 coron yn ystod ei fywyd. Roedd yn enwog fel arweinydd eisteddfodau. Cyfrannodd at gylchgronau Y Genhinen a Cymru yn ogystal â chyhoeddi dwy gyfrol o'i farddoniaeth: Telynau'r Wawr (Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1899) a Bro Fy Mebyd a Chaniadau Eraill (Bala, 1929) Roedd ganddo 5 o blant, a bu farw 22 Ionawr 1947.
