The Labour Party in Briton Ferry, Glamorgan, was one of the first Independent Labour Party branches in Wales. Ever since Ramsey McDonald was elected to parliament in 1919 the constituency has had a Labour MP. The constituency was represented by Lord John Morris for 42 years. He also served within various Labour cabinets as Minister for Defence, Secretary of State for Wales and Attorney General.
