The Black Book Of St Davids. Paper; 385 x 245; ff. l-322, with 16 unnumbered folios and 2 loose double folios and 2 loose double folios marked 58 and 59; 58 should precede f. 59, but 59 does not belong to this part. Its proper place is before f. 31. The order of the folios is wrong, and the text should be read in this sequence:- 58, 59-171, 1-30, 59, 31-58, 172-322. Bound in quarter calf with parchment corners. 18th cent. An eighteenth cent. transcript of the Black Book of St Davids, 1326. This transcript may be compared with the edition printed and published by the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion from BM Add. MS 34, 125. (Cymmrodorion Record Series, No. V). The unnumbered folios at the beginning of this transcript contain the memoranda which are placed at the beginning of the printed text, but the notes which are printed at the end of that text are not contained in this transcript. There are notes by F. P. Tomlinson and Samuel B. Merriman at the beginning of the volume. The latter draws attention to the misplacing of the account of Lawhaden, but he erred in placing 59 after 58. (No. 170, 320).
