Biographical history
In the 18th and 19th century, the Hopkin family were farmers in Betws, Carmarthenshire. David, Richard and Evan Hopkin are mentioned in 1719; Richard Hopkin (fl. 1757) is described as of Llangyfelach, Glamorgan, while David Hopkin (fl. 1748) is of Betws. In the 1790s, Mary Hopkin transferred property to her son David (fl. 1796-1845) and his wife Ann (nee Morgan); David occupied Cwmcathanycha, Betws.
