1 Duke of Beaufort. 2 George White, junior, of New Weare in p. Whit Church, Herefordshire, iron master, on behalf of George White, the elder. Articles of agreement (draft) to lease for 21 years the furnace for the melting and running of iron ore and cinders, also the lower forge for the melting and hammering of iron in p's Tintorne and Chappelhill in co. Mon., and the 5 a. called Leighton lands pertaining to the forge, at the rent of £120 per annum; the stipulations include provisions that the lessor should not sell any part of his wood coppices to any person other than the lessees, except the quantity he is obliged to furnish to Thomas Dix, master of the Wire Works at Abbey Tinterne, that the wood should be felled at 16 years growth, that the same should be corded into two foot wood, containing 8 foot 4 inches in length upon the ground, 4 foot 4 inches in height from the ground and 2 foot 2 inches over or 'in length of stick or billet', that the lessor should have the preference of pig-iron remaining at the furnace for making Osmond iron for the use of his Wire Works at £6.5.0 per ton of weight usual at other furnaces, and that the lessees should pay 6s. for every cord of 2 foot wood so felled according to the aforesaid dimensions.
